Broken wires on fuel pump assembly

I broke two wires pulling the fuel pump assembly out of the car. What do you think a safe fix would be for this?

I meant they are connected to something in the tank but it doesnt feel like a connection I can unclip. Could I just use basic connecters for it? That doesnt seem safe though.

If they are really small gauge wires...they are to the sender....you should crimp and heat shrink them so they don't short together. they don't carry current to speak of..but they will need to be insulated from each other if the breaks are side by side

Remember to use a heat gun carefully....gasoline burns really easily

Would it be fine if I just put the heat shrink over them after I spliced them without heating it? It would still not allow them to touch but wouldnt be super tight on the wires.

So if they do not phisically touch they should be ok sitting in fuel with crimp connectors?
