Box Opinions

I've been looking around and I see alot of people use the ZEnclosures box, but it's sealed is what I glean.

Now I'm getting a 12" Kicker L5, and I went over to Custom Sounds, and they quoted me $250 for a custom ported box for the RX-8, I was wondering whether you guys believe that is worth it, or if the sealed ZEnclosures for $150 would be a better buy. Cause I am really stuck between ported and sealed...not knowing what is better.

It's as easy as this; a ported box will be louder, will be bigger and not as accurate as far as response time; a sealed box will be smaller, hit harder at lower bass notes and will reproduce the notes more accurately. With a 12L5 I'd rather have it in a large sealed box versus a small ported box going off of kicker's specs. Save yourself $100.

It's obviously not "as easy as this."

i have a kicker 12" L7 in a zenclosure box. its just enough airspace for it. you have the L5, so you shouldn't have any problems at all. i say save yourself the $100 and get the zenclosure.

TIP: put the box in the car first, then mount the sub. its not gonna fit through your trunk with the sub mounted, especially if you have the grill.

I simply weighed the pros and cons vs. two types of boxes firebirdude. So please raise the your B. S. flag- you're an idiot.

To which you are incorrect. Increased low frequency extension is a prime characteristic of the vented design. But thanks anyway...

Well, I listen to mostly rock and country, so I guess I'm gonna go with the sealed zenclosures then. If I just call the number, they will customize the box for the L5 right?

yea thats what my buddy did, and it sounds great. i have two 10" memphis in a false floor box, looks sweet and sounds even better, but it all depends on what your going for, from my experience a custom box has almost always looked better for the shows, but if sound is all your goin for i would say the zenclosure would be just fine

Ok so I'm all ordered up for my zenclosures box.

So the system is gonna be:
Kicker ZX750.1 Class D Mono Amp
Kicker 12 inch L5 Dual 2 Ohm
ZEnclosures sealed box

It should all be here this weekend, so I'm gonna try to get it installed then, which would be dope.
