Question Weird problem with LED light install

I ordered a few LEDs from RX8strakes.com last week, including:
  • Super Bright Tail Light Set
  • Clear RX-FX Side-Marker Set\Super Bright LED Bulb Set
  • Parking Lights Super Bright LED Bulb Set
After the install, I'm seeing a weird issue:
When my headlights/parking lights are turned off and I press the brake pedal, my headlight indicator on the dashboard, my parking lights, and side-marker lights all illuminate dimly.

If the headlights are on, it seems to work fine, but I can't just have my headlights on all the time!

I double-checked the connections and it seems to be maybe an issue with the brake lights, If I put the stock bulbs back in, I don't have this issue. Is there anything I'm missing? I do have one 6ohm resistor on each harness and it is installed correctly (it does blink at a normal pace).

I wrote to RX8strakes to see if they heard of that, and they haven't. Does anyone have any ideas?

i have all those same leds with no problems. iifc you only need the resistor on the turn signal bulb. i'd start by putting them in one by one until you can determine which bulb is causing your problem. then report back.

Well, there was something wrong with those brake lights I had in there, I replaced them with some 20 led brake light bulbs and problem went away.

idk...

it's happened before. you need more load if you replace all tail lights with leds

that happened to me when i put HIDs in my fogs and a few days later the ballast went and got a new one and never happened again so i assume then it senses something off and probably will go especialy if you got a new one and its fixed

I got whatever they gave me in this kit...
http://www.rx8strakes.com/index.asp?...ROD&ProdID=116

Should have known better, I've never had problems with LED's before, but then again we picked out our own bulbs before this.

Never bought a "kit" until now.... thought it would have what I needed, apparently not, I was a little disappointed in the brightness of them also.

Oh well, live and learn...

you might have the brake lights switched with the turn signals or reverse lights.

there is a reason i asked if you got 7443 or 7440. 7440 has a single circuit which should be used in the turn signals and reverse lights. 7443 is a dual circuit, meaning they get brighter when you press the brakes, which are of course used for the brake lights. the load resistors should only be installed on the turn signals. this is because the turn signal relay need a specific resistance in order to work properly. another way to get around not using the load resistors is to use a different turn signal relay specifically for LED use.

hope this helps.

i know that v-led's only sell 7443's because they can be used as a single or dual circuit since there are only connection pins in the plug to use. I have v-led 7443 led's in all slots of my rear cluster lights. Basically, the "low" wattage leads in the bulbs used for turn signals and reverse lights just aren't used.

No, that's not the case.... the brake lights are dual contact/intensity and they worked in that respect. The turn signals and resistors have nothing to do with the brake lights.

They only reason the problem shows itself on the cornering light and parking lights is because it is on the same circuit as the brake lights.

The moment I would put the stock bulbs in, problem resolved...
putting in the bigger LEDs, problem resolved...

so it seems the "weaker" LEDs that came in the kit, couldn't "act" as a resister and therefore the load on the wire was still available to the other lights, enough to just barely light them.

Maybe little thread resurrection but thought I would post in this one because the LED swap caused this problem for me. Hopefully this is helpful to someone else.

Recently changed all of the tail and front to LED. Installed the load equalizers for the turn signals and had HID fog convertion done Friday. I had only been driving my car at night and didn't notice an issue.

Today out during the day and I pressed brake when door was open and heard alarm for lights on WTF. Noticed my side markers and parking lights on. I thought it had something to do with the HID fog conversion

Just inspected the LED brake lights before tearing the front bumper off, and the 7443 bulbs I ordered from VLEDs only had 1 wire on each side. Which answers why the bulb only worked one way and light was high power with just turning lights on on the column. Gotta send the bulbs back hopefully they will exchange or send me new ones. The same bulb but in white for reverse had both wires full length on each side.

I ordered these ones at the time
RED 7443 7.5 WATT HIGH POWER LED BRAKE LIGHT BULBS 7440 | 1 PAIR
Price: $29.99

Take care.
