Intresting did the front rotor or rear get the o2 sensor.

It might be a nice thing to play with tuning it in one then seeing what the other one is doing.

Going by the pics on fb it looks like the front rotor collector got the 02 sensor.

With did it both ways, once for a test fit (on a driveway with jackstands), once for the dyno run (lift). Charles R. Hill knew what he was doing, so he made it look easy when he removed it using jack stands.

If you have never removed the OE exhaust manifold, and if you are not that mechanically inclined, I would discourage you from doing it with jack stands. You would be cursing for hours Removing the crossmember and motor mounts is not the problem, but getting to some of the bolts that hold the manifold in place can get frustrating. It is really tight in there and it gets old very quickly if you are lying on your back or sitting on concrete. Then you have to be creative when installing the long tube header. Again, it is very tight down there, so laying on your back while holding the thing to align it correctly can get old very quickly.

With a lift your life will be much easier of course.

The O2 was tapped on the runner that connects to the center exhaust port so it receives AFR from both housings, my question Charles was were AFR monitored during the run to compare against the flow of all OE placement after all runners and funneled into one airflow. Just curious if it made any difference at all. Did the car run leaner/richer etc....

On the topic of installing a header it is not complicated, and can be done in 30min-60mins depending on your familiarity. You have to remove the transverse member and support the engine on a jack w/ a piece of wood as you will need to remove the passenger side motor mount in order to get enough room to work.

Is this setup louder than a racing beat header upgrade?

Care to elaborate? Plenty of guys have upgraded their street-only RX-8s with forced induction or nitrous. How is somehome more hard core? Is it just too damn loud?

When I upgraded my header on my supercharged car, the noise was deafening and the only solution was to upgrade the cat back to a stainless packed, chambered setup with twin pipes after the cat with a resonator in each.

It is still loud however, I can live with it now.

I would imagine that this setup will be a lot louder with possible power gains.

Good questions. Sorry about my lack of clarification. I was responding to "gwilliams" above, whom I know personally from when I lived in the northeast. So I know his situation is very similar to mine (read below)

I do not baby my street only RX8 when I drive it. However, because I'm still under warranty, and because they test for emissions every year where I live, I am not inclined at the moment to upgrade my street only RX8 with parts that would either void my warranty or cause me not to pass emissions. From that perspective, forced induction or even this long tube header would be overkill for me.

Sure, I know I could just swap the OE exhaust system into the car whenever I go for the emissions test. I could also swap it if I needed to go get warranty work done at the dealer. But at the moment those options are not practical for me in any way, hence my mentioning of this being "overkill" for my application.

Hope this makes better sense now.

In terms of the loudness, as you can see from the pics we were still using the rest of my OE exhaust. I imagine this thing would be really loud with a different set up.

thanks for the post and advise pistonhater. Yes I would have the same emissions test problem in New Jersey where I presently live.

On my old 400+ hp Racing Beat built and modified turbocharged first gen RX7 I did indeed do the swap out to pass emissions , however that car was NOT still under any warranty and it was primarily a track car and not my daily driver. Maybe when the warranty is up on my 2008 40th Anniversary Edition RX8 I will make this move to the BHR exhaust system. In the meantime I will just salivate about the added fun.

Then please explain why the near zero primary tube length collector header I built back in 2006 makes double digit gains too.

if you can get the gas out just as smooth and move as fast, then it will probably get the same result.

Can my existing BHR midpipe be modified to accommodate the long tube header, or is it not feasible?
Any ballpark clue to the retail price yet?
This could be my next investment in my 8.
I can't wait!

Just sell it, not worth the time. Based on other items etc... I would ball park this item to retail between 1200-1500 depending on what material it is being made out off. Which may seems like a lot to most but considering my header and up-pipe w/ EWG flange (Note no EWG was included) for my STI just rand me 1800. The above prices seem reasonable.
