FS: GReddy T618Z turbocharger
I have for sale the included "stock" turbocharger that comes in the GReddy T618Z turbo kits for the RX-8. I am selling because I am switching to MazdaManiac's GT3071R turbo system.
This GReddy snail is pretty good shape. It is a fresh rebuild, has absolutely ZERO shaft play, new seals, and is ready to boost. The turbo even looks new!
But there are a few less than perfect things: The first is the turbo is missing it's internal wastegate actuator. The good news is ATP Turbo sells a replacement for under $90 bucks that works far better than the actuator GReddy includes. This new actuator has better responsiveness and is more robust than the GReddy unit.
Also, the turbine wheel has suffered some minor damage. I don't know how this happened, but the fins on the turbine have some chips taken out of them. It could have been a spark plug electrode entering the turbine housing (unlikely but possible) or a piece of apex or side seal. It won't effect performance, and the whole CHRA has been professionally balanced by Turbos Direct in Peoria, AZ, so it spins perfectly with zero wobble.
The only other issue is with the discharge on the turbine side, one stud was cross threaded when installed by a previous owner and when I attempted to remove it, the stud snapped. I never got around to drilling out the broken piece and re-tapping the hole. It is the middle stud, however, so it doesn't create an exhaust leak. One of the corner studs also looks like something similar happened to it, and the previous owner drilled out the broken piece, but tapped the hole at an angle, so the stud sits off-center. I simply used a Dremel to oblong the hole in my downpipe and it fit perfect.
This turbo has low miles, but I don't know the exact amount. It has ZERO miles since it's rebuild. It was also rebuilt my MazSport in Novemeber of 2006 (etching inside compressor housing face). It has since been rebuilt.
