Sorry Zumn, wrong again...Shinkas are priced relatively the same as every other used 8. As a matter of fact there is an '06 Shinka at my dealership with less 15k miles and in near mint condition and it's only priced at $21k.

zumn, i hate to tell you but you're incorrect (and I8U is right). shinkas hold their value no more than others and in fact, they depreciate more b/c they come in line with the average 8 so you lose that extra that was paid for the novelty. don't get me wrong, i really like the black cherry and copper red but they aren't commanding a premium just b/c they are shinkas.
as time passes there isn't a big difference in price between a sport and GT or even GT and shinka.

as the years go by the limited models will command a slight premium over the regular line. i've seen this for years with the RX-7 lineup. the 79 Limited, which was restricted to 3000 units will command a little more of a premium over a regular 79 S or GS with similar mileage and condition because of its limited availability. the 80 Leather Sport was another wich was restricted to 2500 units, as was the 83 Limited Edition of which 5000 units were produced. we saw a limited model again in 1988 with 1500 of the 10th Anniversary RX-7 being produced. they command more than a standard TII. what holds a limited production car's value is originality. non modified limited productin cars will hold their value, but one has to wait a few years or so.. wait until mazda stops producing the RX-8, then the prices for the limited models liek the Shinkas and the R3's will be higher.

So I'm curious, if only 1,357 2005 Shinka's made it off the line, how many of those are 6spd manual? I was the only '05 Shinka in Maryland I knew about for a while, but then I actually saw another one in my office parking lot. I was absolutely floored. What are the chances?

so basically after all the jokes and comments,,,facts are the shinka and my car are very similar as it comes wht all of that stuff....PS no limited edition hold more value, cars that are not good on gas, burn oil and are 2 seaters at the best of times cater to a small market segment to boot they depreciate faster that a lada....

^ yes, the price is ridiculous. That's not the point. Are you telling me you wouldn't like to have a 20B under the hood? Do you realize what it costs to do that?
If you were to buy a good FD and do a 20B conversion on it, you would spend about what he's asking.

As far as the RX-7 comments below... You will not get a "clean" FD for under 10k. The car is old enough that getting a clean one is way harder than you might think. I've been tempted to buy one for a while now and have resisted because there are so many problems that don't show up easily on first inspection. A 20B swap is not going to cost you less than 10k either, not to mention the porting, turbos, shocks etc the guy has on that car. The price he is asking isn't reasonable because people won't pay that much for that car. That doesn't mean he hasn't thrown a hell of a lot more into the car. Modifying a car generally means spending a ton of money to trash your resale value. One of the reasons I don't give a rats *** about modifying my RX-8 is the resale of the RX-8 (Shinka or not) is crap anyway.

That's because mods aren't really worth the money put into them, not in resale value. But still. Yes you can get a clean FD for not too much. And then to do a 20B conversion you're looking at at least what, 30-40k?

No, it's [2005 Shinka] not rare per se, and the added niceties are relatively minor (pretty much just 'grand touring' options). However, the Black Cherry Mica paint, and the Parchment Leather interior did matter to me, as they also seem to to allot of folks who comment on it. I also liked getting those GT options in one package.
I never deluded myself that it would hold any appreciable value over any other comparable model in the timeframe I intend to keep it (until the 16X based vehicle is available).
To each their own.
