What a jerk did to my 8

Just wanted to show everyone what a jerk did to my 8.

Story behind it is:

Went to Costco today and we pass by this guy that has one of those baby carriers strapped to him and pushing a cart. As we park, this guy yells something to us as we are getting out and we looked at him and asked "What?" He then says "2 feet." We look at him with a confused look and he says "You came within two feet of hitting me." I say ok and turn around to go in, not thinking anything about it. The whole 20 minutes we are inside, I'm thinking to myself, "I hope that guy doesn't do anything stupid to my 8." So, we get what we need and get the car and lo & behold, the keying. Go back inside to Costco and talk to their camera guy and it turns out there is no camera on the side we parked on. So we basically can find the guy on camera, but since there is no camera seeing him key my car, Costco can't do anything which I understand. It's not worth turning in to my insurance since my deductible is $1k.

It just amazes me how many jerks there are in the world.

Anyone have any guesses as to how much it's going to cost?

Another upstanding citizen setting high standards for their kids - gotta love it.

I probably would have apologized to the guy (out of habit) and said that while it may have seemed close I did see him and his adorable child and was careful to leave some room. It may have been enough to diffuse a possible situation.

Either way - definately sucks and the guy needs to go see some kind of anger management people if he's keying up people who *dont* hit him.

That's why you should have roughed him up when he came on to you.

I try to keep as far away from people as possible, especially with my 8, because I know that they could put their key or anything out to scratch or scuff it.

Here, I didn't have much choice. Either I hit the car passing me coming from the other way or go around him with enough room. Sure, I could have waited or done any other number of things that "may" have avoided the situation, but hindsight is 20/20.

Also, there is no justification to do something as low as keying. It's just immature.

Nothing justifies that a-holes vandalism of private property. He can scream and hoot all he wants but don't key my car.

Sorry to see that!!! I worry about that all the time.. maybe I'm paranoid, but if someone even looks at me a 1/2 second too long, my first thought is "He better not key my car!"

what a C*ck sucker! That sucks.

That doesn't justify him going and scratching up your car at all....but you should have just said "sorry man I didn't mean it" and go your merry way...that probably would have held him at bay.

Remember guys, you are driving a rare and nice car....and people out there are just sore envious LOSERS. Don't give someone a reason (as un just and screwed up as it is) to scratch up you ride or do some other mashed up sh*t to it. Always bear this in mind when driving around and steer CLEAR of confrontation of any kind.....

Heres another one. For those of you who like to take up 2 parking spots by parking on an angle so as to keep people from getting too close to ding you ride...DON'T do it. People hate to see that and see that as "just" provocation.

Man, sorry to hear about that - that's got to be super aggravating. So what if the guy was pissed you didn't apologize - there are constructive ways to deal with that. if he's still doing that when his kid is old enough to remember and absorb, he's gonna be raising another a-hole just like him.

I was at a party last night and was parked close to unload my stuff, and thought about moving it because I knew there would be drunk guys hanging out outside, but I didn't want to be one of those people worrying about his car all the time when there are better things to think about, and besides, I didn't feel like driving it for 5 minutes just to warm it up.

Came out later, a couple guys were leaning against it. I went over and said very politely " I don't mean to be a dick, but could I ask that you guys not lean on my car" He said, "ok, but that is being a dick" I said "Fine, see it as you want to," and walked away after they moved away from the car. Then I started worrying about them keying my car, but just went back in and figured I could count on them not doing something so stupid and immature - luckily, I was right. Normally, I don't give a crap if someone leans against my car - I mean what's the harm? but I didn't know these guys, they had probably been drinking, and so I didn't know if they'd accidentally knock the mirror or scratch the paint somehow.

But of course I came off as the snob and the dick.

Oh well.

You handled it well....I would have moved my car though.

I hear ya...I don't mind people leaning on my car if they are friends....but otherwise...I'm not feel'n that and people should respect that.

If someone politely told me not to lean on his car i wouldn't think hes a dick at all.

People like that must not know what it feels like to spend 40Gs of your hard earned money on a vehicle

my suggestion, for now, touch up paint, until you can get it proffesionally done, or until your deductible comes down

Yea you need to do something before it starts to rust. I hate mean people. I seriously doubt two feet was endangering him. I assume you were not doing 35 but more like 5.

I work as a manager at a bank, and I CONSTANTLY worry that some pissed off customer is going to figure out thats my car and key it/dent it/do something unspeakably horrible to it.

I think I'll have to park it somewhere else and take the bus the last leg of my trip ;-)

Yea, this was in a parking lot with a car coming at me, so I wasn't going over 5-10. That's probably a good idea to at least get some touch up paint on it. Luckily Mazda had sent me some.

I bet that the scratch could be buffed out. I had something similar happen to my in a parking lot where the hood of my car got keyed a couple of times and the body shop said it could probably be buffed out or if not it'd be $150 to paint the hood. If you live in the Dallas area I could give you the name and location of the body shop. My guess is that you can get that repainted for about $150-$300.

It won't... the rear doors are aluminum.

Ah, the rear doors are aluminum so no rust, very nice. I still think I will put on some touch up paint so it is at least not a noticeable until I can get it professionally done. What really is ironic is that about a couple of months after my parents bought their GMC Envoy, someone keyed it. Mean people suck.

P.S. I'm in Missouri, so I'm trying to get it done as close to me as possible. Plus Lou Fusz has been good to me so far, but this will be the first time I will deal with their body shop.
