Junkyard engine I bought, took a gamble and priced accordingly, and I lost. one or more failing piston rings. Unknown mileage and history on the engine.
Just a running joke that my Miata has blown more engines and burns more oil than my rotary
Pulling it to rebuild with quite a few upgrades starting in a few weeks. I'd love to stick a Renesis in, but I need a good mileage daily more with the new job. So I've got a list of $9,800 in work that includes a fully built engine that should be good for around 160whp NA, but adding an FM turbo kit that should put me to 220-230whp under 6-8psi of boost (engine upgrades should be able to handle up to ~350whp if I went that far, though never expect to), 35mpg, and weight should drop just under 2,200lbs. Other items like a big brake package, RX-8 cloth seats, full exhaust, etc... Will be fun enough to live with every day while being ~$260 a month cheaper on gas than my 8.
And the engine strength should be good enough to deal with my piston abuse (cause they get thrashed like a rotary).

My wife balked at the cost at first, until I pointed out that my other options for getting a daily were $25,000 minimum new car price, plus interest and mods, making this by far the cheapest option
...well, just getting another junkyard engine was even cheaper, and the turbo is hardly needed, but I don't want to gamble on the engine again, would beat it to hell whatever I do, and I can justify building it to take my abuse and adding the turbo for even more fun

Once I start, I will have a thread here (probably the lounge). Not all that much interest in doing it on Miata forums until I'm done, then I can just summarize and post there.
