Urgent Question: pre-orders taking delivery after August 26th, did you get $500?

Can anyone answer this?

Several people have indicated they have, but I have one specific question that I really want to get answered before I go ahead and pick up the car today... otherwise, I think I'll wait until Monday when I can hear it from Mazda directly one way or the other.

I preordered in April; the $500 + maintenance was supposed to be available to people who preordered before Aug 26th... which I did.

My dealership barely knows anything about it, and they have no paperwork, and told me to just call the 1-800 number.

Twice, I've called Mazdausa orders line, and they assured me I was in.

HOWEVER... and this is the question for anyone who picked up their pre-order after Aug 26th... *did you sign anything regarding the horsepower issue while you were at the dealership*?

Or did you only call the 1-800 Mazda rx8 line to deal with it?

If the answer is the first, that you signed something then heard from Mazda, I'm gonna wait on delivery until I can call Mazda on Monday...

... if you dealt directly with Mazda on it, I'll take it on faith that if other pre-orders who bought after Aug 26th got the deal, that I will too.... especially since Mazda said so, on two separate occasions.

(I'm just kinda worried here... sorry if this should go in the lounge or whatever).

It is directly through mazda. my dealership doesn't even know I am getting it. I ordered in May and am taking delivery in Oct.

you need to get the letter. with it is a form that you fill out and send back in. On it you need to put your address, name, and VIN number. You also must sign that you aknowledge the new H.P. rating. then you send it back in. However, this all has to be done by Oct. 1st. So you might already be out of time.

I am in the same boat, but like you I didn't get anything telling me otherwise.

I will check with my dealer shortly.

I also pre-ordered in April. On August 25th, my car was "in port" and about to be released to the dealer. I called the 800 number and Mazda assured me that I was included in the $500 + free-service package. They verified that my VIN qualified and sent me the forms in the mail.

When my car arrived at the dealer on Sept 4th the dealer presented me with a form to sign which indicated that I was aware of the horsepower issue. Had I not been a pre-order and on the list, I suspect this would have legally indemnified the dealership and Mazda against low-power claims. I had similar concerns as you've expressed, but decided to trust Mazda and sign. I really wanted the car, and not getting the free maintenance package would have stung, but not enough for me to reject the car.

The week after I purchased the car, the offer letter from Mazda arrived. It gave me two options: decline to purchase the car for a full refund of my deposit (e.g. not a buyback offer!), or accept the $500 debit card and service. I choose option 2.

It's now been a few weeks, and I haven't recieved the debit card yet, but I'm not worried.

So I think once you purchase your pre-ordered car, you don't have the option to return the car.

I posted elswhere on the forum about this.

In short, call this number and make sure Mazda has you in their records. (800) 222-5500 RX8 Cust Service

The letter does ask for a reply B4 10/1/03 but I suspect that Mazda will not hold this against you since it is their error that the letter did not reach you.

Be sure they have you on record by calling them B4 10/1/03 and THAT THEY HAVE YOUR CORRECT NAME/ADRESS/CITY/ZIP

Good luck,

Claude H.

Thanks claude and others.

I didn't sign anything at the dealership about the horsepower issue at all.

The problem was, I'd called 1-800-222-5500 quite a few times to check on delivery dates, and while I never received an email ... dealership screwed up my email address, shocking... I did receive the book and the mug / thermos pre-order gifts, and the people at 222-5500 confirmed that they had me assigned to that car, at my mailing address.

Twice, I confirmed with them that I was eligible for the deal. I had a slightly different question each time... not that I'm neurotic about it or anything...

They said that I was in the system, and that other pre-orders before Aug 26th get it too. I was concerned on Friday about the Oct 1 deadline, but it seems to me that logically, if there's a 2-month lead time on delivery, Oct 1 cannot possibly be a deadline for pre-orders up to August 25th, because there's almost no possible way to get the car there by Oct 1. I just have to get confirmation from Mazda on that on Monday... then I will be fully happy about the purchase. I'm happy now, but I just want to know what I need to do to get the deal, assuming I am eligible.

I'd say that Oct 1 was a deadline for everyone who purchased the car before August 26th, as they are the ones eligible for buyback... us pre-orders taking delivery afterwards only get to 1) not take delivery and get our deposit back, or 2) get the maintenance and $500. That's how I understood it to work a month ago.

The problem was, I called 222-5500 on Friday, learned it had left the port on Wednesday, and must've gotten a new guy on the line, because he said "I can't tell you whether or not you're eligible for the $500 and maintenance. I just don't know. Call the rx8 line." Oh, thanks...

Thus my concern today.

But there was nothing to sign at the dealership about it at all, and the sales manager assured me that he'd had a pre-order customer pick up one last week and he got the deal through Mazda.

I plan on spending a lot of time on hold on Monday to confirm with the rx8 line (1-800-662-6779) that I am, as they said twice, eligible.... already spent 1.5 hours on Friday, and didn't get through.

Heh... and my car, unfortunately, shipped without the spare tire I ordered. But I did pick it up today, and it's awesome!

No pics, sorry, no working camera just yet, but eventually.

Heh... I may end up using the $500 for my spare tire kit whenever the dealership can actually order it... basically, with the deal, it'd be free. Wouldn't complain.

I'll let y'all know on Monday what the outcome was.

... oddly enough, I'm kinda sad that I'm giving up my Dodge Neon, as it was my first adult-world car, and I had it for 8 years, even though there were a ton of things I wasn't thrilled about with it... but partially that's because I don't yet have a consistent, comfortable driving position with the RX8; however, I think somehow I'll get used to the 8. :D

...

takahashi... if you know the dealership, and know, as I'm sure you do, what package you ordered... try www.mazdausa.com and go to Inventory, look up what's coming in in an RX8 (duh) at your dealership. If you ordered anything special, like I ordered the cargo net, you should be able to identify your car.

That's not the actual 'live' dealer inventory, rather all the cars the dealership should be getting in the next month or two.

F'r instance, mine is the GT nordic green black/chapparal leather with cargo net (and formerly spare tire kit).

It may be that it hasn't been built yet, I'm not sure the current lead time between order and build... you can't get a VIN until it's built, as its not assigned until its built.

For reference, I ordered April, mine wasn't built until August 4th.

i ordered before 8-26 and took delivery of my 8 on 9-18. i was told as you were that i was in the system and am eligible. i had mazda fax me the letter where you specify the option to get the $500 and free maintenance since i had not received it yet although i have been assured i will. i filled out the form that was faxed and mailed it back to mazda last week so that they have it before 10-1 just in case. i think in our case, however where we qualify but didnt officially get the letter yet that if we get the letter after 10-1 that mazda will honor it when you send it in. if i where you i would call mazda monday and get them to fax the form to you and fax it back to them after you filled it out.

Got my letter in the mail today. Didn't think I would as I didn't pre-order. I walked in on 8/25 and left a deposit since they did have the car I wanted on the lot. They were supposed to get it from another dealer but they got a new shipment in the next day and I bought one of those on 8/26. I had to sign the HP disclaimer letter but I still got the offer. It was dated September 24, kinda close since it still had a Oct. 1 cutoff date on it. I took the maintance and the 500$ of course. I'm quite pleased I got the offer, feel like I won the lotto or something.

When I picked up my 8, I did have to sign a paper regarding the HP issue. This did not in any way void your 4-year "gift", nor the $500. smakers. I think it is just a precautionary letter Mazda wants you to sign so you can later on not come back again and say " I never knew that". So, don't worry about it.. I have called the 800 number, and I am in theirs system for the freebies. I was at the dealer Friday getting the crazed tailight problem fixed. (under warranty) and saw the new 8's with a different window sticker that previous ones. They have updated their info. regarding the HP. Have a nice day.
