Steering wheel feels funny

My RX8 is still in its break in period but whenever I take it on the highway, I feel the steering wheel becoming really tight if the road is uneven. I feel like I don't have the ocntrol on steering wheel. I feel like the stability control is doing something even when the car is not skidding. I haven't checked it out with the dealer. I don't experience this in the normal streets. Has anyone else ever experienced it. Do u think something is seriously wrong with mine. It really scares me. This is my first ever car so I don;t even know if other cars do it. Thanks for any help.

The steering wheel will tighten as your speed increases. Maybe it is the speed sensitive steering that you are feeling.

Feel different when you pump your tyres too! Try it.

Mayb the reason the car is not skidding is cause the stability control. U said this happens on uneven road, so at high speeds or really bad road could make the stability control come on. Does the dash say that it is coming on?

It may be that the highway(s) that you are on have some grooves worn in them from trucks, heavy traffic, etc. I feel the same kind of "pulling or tugging" at the wheel when I drive on the highways around here that have tire ruts/grooves/etc.

Steering becoming really tight is a dead giveaway. This is normal, and it should become tighter as the speed of the car increases.

Well the last car i had was a SUV so i don' t know if it is just me but my steering feels really tight at ne speed. A quarter turn of the steering wheel is all u need for a 90 degree turn, it is like past that the steering wheel doesn't turn the wheels ne more, but i am fine w/ that, it just took a little getting used 2 from my CRV.

I believe it's called speed-proportional power steering.

I'll bet w2aew is right. I think it's probably the grooves from uneven road surfaces "catching" the tires combined with the sensitivity of low profile tires.

I'm feeling a slight vibration between 70-74. I've got about 5600 miles on the car and I figured I'd wait until my 2nd oil change to ask them to check it out since that would be about the time for the tire rotation as well. Anybody else feel these? Also, they seem to appear when the weather is colder. I'm going to check tire pressure as well, but I don't feel that for the money I paid for this car that I should have ANY vibrations. I have not abused the tires (no autocrossing, drag racing, or locking up the brakes), nor have I hit any curbs or potholes which might have messed up the alignment. Do you think the dealership will cover the vibration under warranty? I hope they don't give me grief.
