Talking And so it begins

You know when you were growing up as a kid and first starting noticing cars, i mean really notice them. read all the mags look up stuff anywhere you could just try and get as much information as you could. most of it was useless cause we didnt really know what we were looking at but we just knew there was something about those cars. well i bought my rx8 last july with a vision, it wasnt an exact vision but i knew when i was taking my 2006 phantom blue rx8 off the showroom floor that the car would not stay stock forever. when i bought my car my girlfried was unhappy with my choice, she loved my truck. but, i had a vision of what i wanted what i have always wanted. now after getting married in november, and much bugging (more like begging) i have finally gotten permission to make my vision come true, on a alloted 200 dollars a month (per the boss) i can buy whatever parts i want. save for as long or spend as fast i can do whatever. me being smart i went and got a small credit card to build credit in the proccess. $50 dollars a month will go to paying off the parts i buy with that card and 150 will go into saving for the larger objects, aka rims and F/I.
Tonight i have made my "first" purchase aside from the clear corners i got a couple months ago, i bought my unorthodox pulley set, agency power brake lines, and clutch line. so my vision has begun and i see no end in sight because my project, as small as my first step is, has finally started.

congratulations.

you are definately standing before an undefeatable giant. We've all heard of the modding bug. Once you catch it, it usually never stops.

That is, until you realize that you've got so little equity in the car that your deficit starts to haunt you. Cars are the worst investment there is. As long as you put a cap on how much your willing to blow on it, it might not be that bad. Setting that point is crucial to staying within a financially reasonable aspect of modding.

Good luck.

This and the Rotory Prayer in the other thread make it for a pretty good morning.

Equity in a car only matters if you intend to get rid of it someday. An 8 ain't an investment, friend, it's a toy, and you can't spend too much on toys that wrench your guts around. I ride Harleys, too, so I know.

Ya this buy wasnt an investment, this is purely my getaway. I dont think i would call it my toy either, because toys get old and you throw them away. I dont know what to call my 8, but i do know that i will never in a million years give this car up willingly. it would have to be pryed from my hands at gun point.

you would be correct. And inevitably, i've heard owners come and go so quickly from this site it could make your head spin. Initial excitement of the car seems to be overcome by a reality of the car that some aren't able to accept.

Some mod cars out, and then decide after it's all dope that it's not as great as they thought. THAT would be the point at which I refer to when you totally lose your butt...

I'm aware that keeping a car your whole life is what makes it worth the while, but the fact is...tons of people tend to change their minds after 5-10 years. Some much sooner.

Don't fall into that crowd and you'll be good
