Sad, but have no choice, I have to sell it.
I enjoyed my Rx-8 So much, but sadly i think im going to have to get rid of it.
It has given me problems since day 1, Its been only a Year and a half and so far :
New alternator, New transmission, and just in august they they put a brand new engine in it. Now only with 30,000 miles i get stuck on the side of the road, due to the clutch blowing up? They told me its not covered under warranty since day 1 out of mazda. I call MNAO, and they are no help, they tell me that if its a factory defect they will cover it, but the service manager at the Norman Reynolds Mazda is telling me that he found fibers in the starter or something, giving him reason to believe that it has been driven hard ( which is total Bs). So i have to pay 1000 dollars out of pocket for labor and parts. MNAO offered to pay 50 50 but the dealership declined it and said no, and so now i have to pay 100%. I have done nothing but fight with customer service and the dealership, all i been asking for is explanations on what happened to it, just to suspect if its customer abuse. But he said the only way for him to find out is he has to take out the transmission but he has to charge me to do that. Since they towed my car they never called me and gave me any updates about it or even called me. I had to call them, once 7 times in one day. I ended up having to drive up to the dealership twice to talk to someone, I tried to ask the techincian what happended to my car or what he saw, instead he ignored me started walking away and muttering things under his breath. The regional rep of mazda was there too, and i was so heated. The service manager and her did some reverse pyschology on me i dont know some how they got me to calm down and some how made it look like my fault i dont even know what happended im too mad to even argue anymore about the situation, All i wanted to know is what happended to the car. The service manager told me hes not an engineer just a master techician some other BS. I just think all this was BS. I dont know who else i can talk 2 about this, They have had my car for a week now and now its going to take another week to get it fixed to get parts and stuff. Good bye Rx-8 , You will be traded as soon as you get fixed. And i urge that no one ever go to Reynolds Ford and Mazda in Norman Oklahoma again. They are the worst service you will ever get. Sorry if this made no sense im typing out of fustration.

Man, that is terrible. You should get a lawyer, but that is a huge hassle and this a-hole dealership knows that. I have had dealerships not fix stuff for me in the past, but thankfully it has only been minor stuff.
Have you tried going to a different Mazda dealership?

whoa, sorry bro. could understand your frusterations and completely agree with moving on. doesn't happen often, but in your case, it sounds like it's warranted.

Brakes and clutches have never been covered by any new car warranty that I can ever recall. The concerning point about this deal in my mind though, is that the tranny and engine have both been replaced recently. In the case of the engine I would assume that the new engine did not come complete with flywheel and clutch assembly and that yours had to be transferred from your old engine to the new one. If that is the case who is to say that they might not have caused a problem during this work?
If it was a new car that had never been apart like yours and the clutch died I would say you are basically on your own. The fact that your car has been apart and everything reassembled by local yocal techs, would make me want to get a red hot poker out and shove it up their @$$!! Personally I would find a cheap lawyer (oxymoron) and have him draft a letter to the MNOA and the dealership stating that you believe the clutch failure was due to all of the recall work and that someone at the dealership didn't put something back together correctly causing the issue. That explanation is just as feasible as the dealerships explanation, and the fact that they are throwing it on you even when Mazda was willing to pay half would make me want to do something based on principle alone. I think the 50% deal that MNOA was offering was probably a fair deal, but considering circumstances I can't blame you fro being upset with the dealership and Mazda in general. At this point its probably not worth a full blown legal battle, but a nice warning shot might get you the 50% deal back.
The moral of the story is never underestimate the importance of a good dealership vs a bad dealership thats for sure.

Damn, it took me a while to read the whole thing, I know that u're pissed but try to break them up next time, anger is not getting u nowhere.
If I were you, I would get a lawyer to send them a letter, it might cost you even more, but Im *pretty sure* that as soon as they get ur letter, they will treat you with *a lot* of respect.
and you only had 10 posts in total since 2005? Well, if you were here more often you should've known how to deal with **** like this.

Sorry it took me so long to find this thread.
I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT BAD EXPERIENCES WITH NORMAN REYNOLDS MAZDA.
This involves from when I was initally looking at the car with a sales rep there who knew nothing about it(including basics as calling it a 5spd) etc. Gave me no useful information during the test drive and failed to even mention the rotary engine.
Fast forward after purchase(i did not of course buy through reynolds)
I was hit by another car in a fender-bender and took the car in there for an estimate. The "estimator" spent 20 seconds looking at the damage, took a picture with a digital camera and called it a day. He didn't even look under the bodypanel to see if there was any hidden damage. I took it to two other estimators who actually looked under the car / did a complete visual inspection.
Their parts dept absolutely argues that they cannot get the official mazdaspeed parts ordered painted. I called MNAO multiple times to confirm and got exact part numbers only to have the dealership order the unpainted parts. At this time, they were the only authorized mazdaspeed dealership able to order the MS kit. It wasnt a big deal at the time since insurance was covering 90% of the cost but it still frustated me. When I got the sideskits (FROM ANOTHER DEALER NOW MS AUTHED) they were able to order the part number i requested exactly. All other transactions have been through the better dealer(bob moore edmond).
I would reccomend strongly against using reynolds mazda for anything. Period.
If it's not too late, go see Yahn(spelling, possibly) at bob moore mazda in edmond. I know it's a drive as I'm from norman myself but it is worth it in comparison to dealerships. They just built a new dealership and are now mazdaspeed licensed. While i've had a few(minor) issues with them they are clearly the very superior dealership.

thanks
thanks guys for all the responses, i apologize for no paragraphs, i was really fustrated while writing.
i finally ended up getting my car back. They told me that they had to replace the fly wheel as well, but when they opened it up they saw a "ringer" which was loose or something, so he was like, that is warrantied so u dont have to pay for labor, and so they just made me pay for parts, the clutch fly wheel bearings etc.
i still dont understand what the ringer thing is he was talking about... but my price went down from like 1000 something to 750 something, so i just said okay.
What i ended up doing is, I went to look at other cars at dealerships next to it and i met a sales guy who had the number to the Owner of that dealership, i got a hold of him and told him the problem and thats when all of the "u dont have to pay for labor " thing happended. Its just strange, sorry im fustrated again after typing all this.
My dad is fed up with the 8, because all the problems we had, So he wants to get something gay like a honda civic or acura rsx...Please keep me in your prayers..
(because i dont want that crap)

I advocate a few things that have been said.
If you bought your car new, research the lemon law. Google terms like lemon law attorney , etc.
It's too late now, but a different dealership would've been a quick and easy =possible= fix for this problem. I just can't believe this stuff wasn't under warranty.
From what I understand, dealers are compensated directly from Mazda for warranty repairs, but it takes a few weeks / months to get the money. I don't know why they wouldn't want honor the warranty.
If you're ready to just forget about these problems, see if you can work out a deal with the owner of the dealership - if not MNAO - and seek a trade-in offer combined with a great invoice price deal on a Mazdaspeed3 - to try and keep you in the Mazda family. You never know. It's worth a shot. I know you might be tired of Mazda, but mostly they build great, reliable cars. Lots of people here will agree with me on that.
Lastly, if you can't cement a good trade-in deal with this dealer (or any other), sell your car yourself over autotrader.com. You always lose your *** on trade-ins. Oh, and you might get roasted by some folks for complaining about your dad buying you a new Honda Civic.

In your original post, you said that MNAO offered to pay 50/50, but the dealer declined.
Why would the dealer have said no? From the original $1000 and the $750 you wound up paying, it looks like the dealer screwed you and themselves out of $250 apiece.

Yeah I really think you should try to convince your dad to not trade it in. Unless he decides to trade it in for something as good but with "better" reliability, maybe a used 350z or Impreza. Also, if your dad wants a civic , try to get the Si because that isnt too bad. The RSX is a stinker unless you get the type -S which is pretty fast and reliable with 4 seats and VTACHHHHHHHH.

Dude, I am so sorry..... I don't know what I would do without my wankel....
BTW, what year was your car? I know that the 07 models had a few engine tweaks to make them more reliable and dummie friendly, so I'm hoping that I won't have any major problems.
As far as a new car goes, I would actually be tempted by a mazdaspeed3. It is front wheel drive but they are crazy fast (faster than an 8 in a straight line I think), have 4 doors and a big boot. Just stay away that God awful mazda dealer you mentioned!

the RSX type S actually isn't all that bad of a car. Front wheel driver and a little less power, but a somewhat nice car...the the choices were eventually narrowed down.

Sorry that i have responded in forever to this thread, i forgot that i even had it!
Update:
Convinced my dad to keep the Rx-8
In the mean time, My brakes went out and i had to replace the brakes, but for some reason they warrantied this one.
My tire blew out on the highway, and a week later another one did the same.
I ended up buying all brand new tires.
And now, its about that time to get rid of it, i agree with my dad now!
Just dont know what to get...

That's the first thing you have to learn when buying a stick shift transmission.
NO car dealer or mfgr. covers the clutch. Once you get over that and know its normal.
Stop your
On the other hand I have sympthaty for those who have had problems with the RX 8.
It's a great car........ but If you happen to be one of those owners who has had a few problems I'm with you. It's a sad day but must sell a troubled car.
