So i was at work the other day and i was informed that a guys stock cobalt ss turbo charge would smoke my 8 its an 04 gt i was shocked at this news like is this actually possible.

yes its very true, i know this because i owned an rx8 and now i have an ss/tc

remember in a straight lane and even from a roll rx8 makes no real power until the higher up in powerband which is too late b/c the ss/tc would have already walked on you
the weight of the two cars are about dead even

they each has what the other one needs, the rx8 needs the turbo of the ss and the ss needs the rwd of the rx8, the tires spin like crazy without launch control engaged

Lol even if the Chevy was RWD it wouldnt compare to our car im sorry. Mazda makes a drivers car, designed around driving, not to mention the quality of Mazda is alot better quality than Chevy easily. Speed isnt everything, its the handling of our cars that makes them more fun than cars with more power.

hey don't knock chevy i will admit the interior of my 8 was far superior but in the ss i can hit the corners with speed, remember the car was built to be driven fast not just in a line but curves as well hence the ability to do the ring in 8:22

It's pretty much guaranteed that it will beat you in a drag race. I don't know enough about the Chevy to know if it can turn though, but they do have more power.

err... I mean chevy's are slow, no car can beat the RX8.

me and a friend who use to have a rx8 adn now has a evo x were talking about yeah both our cars could spank a rx8 in the race but they won't compare in the looks department
all we get are drooling prepubescent boys or tools tryna show off in front of their girl friends

When i finally pulled the trigger on my 8 is was because there were a bunch of guys standing next to the 350z and evo...on the other side there was an rx8 w/a bunch of girls next to it...

pretty much a no-brainer on who i wanted to appeal to. . .

i know i really searched high and low for another 8 after i got in my accident but no one wanted to match my deal that i got on the first 8 so i said figured i guess i wasn't meant to own one so i pocketed about 4k and brought the ss

The Cobalt will smoke you in a straight line if both cars are driven properly. But just because the guy owns an SS does not mean he can drive. I have seen Vettes run high 13's, Camaro SS's run mid 14's, and RX-8's run 16 seconds in the 1/4 mile. Just because you have a fast car doesn't mean you can drive it.

oh i am not one of those people to reply on car review numbers to determine how fast my car is i actually know how to drive fast in a fast car, i haven't taken my ss to the track yet but i think the lowest i got my 8 was 15.2 and that was bone stock and about the third run i ever did in the car

idk why this is turning into a debate a question was asked it was answered with the right answer no other justification is needed

15.2? I ran a 14.5 best time bone stock years ago. It took a number of runs and I was stuck at 14.7 for a while and i have been drag racing for 15 years but a 15.0+ is lame. Another guy here years back (check timeslips thread) ran a 14.3 stock. Then again I have seen stock RX-8's on the dyno vary quite a bit in terms of HP. That said, I have never drag raced the RX-8 since because it is just lame to drag race an 8

Well so many threads are started like this because people compare cars, granted even the RX8 belongs in a class of its own, it still gets compared to cars with fewer seats or more hp, or even cars that are considered a lower class and have added mods to make it competitive. In the end its still a Chevy, doesnt look sexy at all, FWD and shouldnt even be compared to an RX-8, but yet it does... Which is why this thread started...

I cannot get over the fact a modern day cavalier can take the beautifull rx8 yes it may be a power car but its fwd? if both cars were in auto x then how would they compare i still believe the 8 has what it takes alot it revs alot higher

they wouldn't compare in autox b/c they wouldn't be in the same class, plus the rx8 is king of autox thats what it was made for it domainates to this day with a design that is over 6yrs old


......as far as track times i know the ss/tc did the ring in 8:22 but i can't find the official numbers for the rx8 i found other threads of owners who had the chance to take their 8s around the ring and the average time was 9:30-10:00

Yes the Balt SS turbo will smoke an 8, pretty much in any race app. From a performance aspect the Balt turbo is pretty amazing....that said, pretty much every other aspect is pretty blahhh. Different strokes for different folks type of thing.

There are ALOT of cars that are faster than the 8 partner, get use to it! lol

All I know is that I didnt get a cobat because it had the worst interior of any car I had driven. (and fail FWD)
