Rotary Chamber Shape

For any interested parties, the attachment is a quick and dirty (non-rigorous) derivation of the shape of the chamber in the Wankel. By playing with the gearing ratio and the eccenric shaft offset you can make some interesting shapes.

Yow! If that's "quick and dirty and non-rigorous" I'd hate to see "clean, accurate and rigorous". I got a headache just reading that. Thank God I'm in sales!

As one of my profs used to say, "Sometime, when you've got a slow Saturday night, you can derive this...."

Slow Saturday night, eh? <G>

I don't see any hand waving (non-rigorousness) at the last step where you combine the two motions - it looks pretty straightforward to me.

I'd like to chunk this into Excel and play with it (I tend to have a lot of slow Saturday nights - I'm old). Great fun - Thanks!
