Is my clutch gone?

Today I was coming home from work and I notice my rpm kept going high. But the car wouldn't move when I pressed the gas. I was able to get the car on side of the road. The gear will go into gear but not move. I had car towed to mazda will find out tomorrow what wrong with it. What you guys think is wrong with it?

Must be abuse.

See a few threads about clutch problems with the RX-8, and be ready to defend against possible abuse claims from Mazda.

Certainly wouldn't be from wear if it went in an instant. Had it been slipping previously? Is there any grinds or anything at all goin on when you shift the tranny?

clutches don't die, they just fade away, something other than the clutch plate for sure unless you do clutch dumps all the time. so they can't claim abuse probably

Yes, clutches usually go slowly. You would notice that getting into gear got harder and harder to do. How is your clutch pedal firmness? If there is no pressure then you likely blew a line or the slave is out. Neither of these scenerios seem slikely on such a new car but I have seen starnger things happen. Does the car rev freely?

Do you do standing burnouts? If so, your throw out bearing could be toast.
