It's a crap shoot man. Many people dont trust Mazda remans but obviously a lot of OEM engines fail as well.

When my car was still on the LOT the OEM engine failed and had to be replaced with a reman.

So pick your poison. Lower mileage cars may have been better taken care of and obviously everything may seem a bit cleaner.

However some people prefer Daily driven vehicles because there hasnt been a chance for things to get corroded/clogged/etc. sitting around.

All you can do is get a compression test on the vehicle in question and properly maintain it. The rest is god's will, GL HF DD DS

yep its a tough one, the engine replacement is not from mazda its from a company called apex rotary and I think the parts they use are from atkins, not sure who they are or what they r like. maybe I might look for a low mileage car , I found a place called mazda uk but not a mazda dealer, they always have 50-60 in stock 03-09 you get a year mot, a sevice and 1 year parts and labour warentee which to me sounds good right? any rx8 I do puchase, a compression test is a must

It really depends on the car your getting. A low mileage car doesn't mean its good, it could have problems too, and a reman engine could be the same, so its really a so so situation. Whatever you decide to choose, get a compression test and test drive the car and see how it runs and drive...good luck!

i think i would look for a lower mileage well cared for car, they are out there.

its a little tough with the 8's because they are all over the place.

i've got two right now, an 04 base 74k, it came with ALL the service records and window sticker and stuff, and its been normal car reliable its whole life (its for sale too)

the other one is an 04 GT, 90k and i have no service history because it has no service history, its on engine #3, and oil pan #7, etc etc. there are also mysterious things like three of the tires are @90% and one is at 30% because someone replaced the right rear suspension and didn't align it. but it was garaged, so the paint is really nice....

Maybe try a auto auction. Bid with the expectations of having to put a reman or having a rebuild done. I paid a little more then I should have because I bought it because I've always wanted one. I knew nothing about the rotary at all. Well besides it looked sharp, was a 6spd, and rear wheel drive. None of which my 05 Mazda 6 are . All in all ill still come in under blue book with a fresh engine install. That's me buying it and installing it myself though. Personally I enjoy knowing everything about my vehicles. I buy/sell for extra income. Here's a example and the way I ended up with my 8. I purchased a Toyota celica cheap and installed a motor. Sold that for a hearty profit and bought my 8 at auction. I've put a few hours in it working out the bugs with help from this forum. It's only been basic maintenance so far (coils, plugs, wires, batt, air filter and cleaning all sensors.) still has a few gremlins but its not like I'm easy on it when I drive it. It sees its share of redlines that's for sure

I cannot imagine why someone would want a daily driver in UK that is an RX8??? When we visit the family I do see a good number of them covered in grit with filthy brake dusted wheels.

They make a super track car or high speed enduro but a really really bad daily driver with such poor mpg with premium @ 9p a gallon. Then there are those nasty sleeping policemen scraping the bottom. AND all those 'mail you a ticket' cameras everywhere.

I love my 8 in Florida and use it primarily as an autocross and touring car but I'm retired so none of my cars get driven constantly around town or back and forth to work.

Keep in mind a "new" 8 is two years old. I see alot of them out there from snowy places with low miles. I got my 04 Touring with a rebuilt motor with 15k on it and a year left on the warrantee.

I put about $3500 into it mostly at the dealer bringing it up to new condition as they didn't replace anything when they replaced the engine. Even used old plugs and didn't clean out the intake or replace coils with 55k. Geesh. I did get a free $1100 cat under warrantee tho'.

So buy these cars for weekends/evenings and drive a fuel miser with cheap insurance during the week.

I have 3 totally different cars and one old bike to break the monotony. None of them sees more than 5k miles/year. None of them has carbon issues.
