Load limit for an 8?

Having just completed my summer internship at Coors I now have to drive back to Austin, TX. Right now I'm trying to fit all my stuff and 14 1/2 cases of beer into my car.
Is there any load limit I should be aware of for an 8?

By the way, this is a great problem to have.

Depends on how bad my shocks feel and how bad the gas mileage is before I get there. Oh, and the count is : 4 cases Blue Moon, 1 case Killians, 4 cases Coors Light, 1 1/2 cases Coors Original, and 4 30pks of Keystone.

My buddy is a salesmen for Coors, he once hooked me up with 15 cases of expired 3.2 Keystone. I get all teary eyed thinking about it.

I don't think you have anything to worry about, but if you feel the load is too heavy, you can drop off that Blue Moon at my house, I'm right off I-25.

Just remember, you're second in line. And it's 15 even now, I just found a 12pk of Extra Gold.

I think you will be fine load limit wise but just be careful of your interior, the plastic scratches easily.

I don't think it will exceed the load limit of the RX8 but I'm sure it will easily exceed the drivers.

Have you ever thought about the bootlegging laws. I had friends, I was camped next to them at Road Atlanta, that were all most arrested for having brought 10 cases of beer from Wisconsin to Georgia. A friend of a friend told the police. You will be traveling across several state lines with the beer visible in the window. The trunk isn't big enough to hide all of that.

I just finished, I think I will try to conceal the stuff showing in the back window. Is it still bootlegging if you're not going to sell it? The keystone is riding shotgun. I don't know the value of the Keystone when you buy that much in the store, but I got it for 7 bucks a case. It's not the monetary value anyway, it's the principle. Alright, time to get some shut eye before heading out.

Have a look at my post here for a pic of the gear I managed to stuff in my '8 trunk for a trip to the coast (350 miles), plus wife and 2 daughters (not in the trunk).

BTW, I seem to remember that manual quotes a maximum loaded weight...

The sticker on my driver's side 'suicide door' says the vehicle's GVWR is 3809lbs.

If I knew the car's precise empty weight (which I don't) I could figure out the maximum load, but let's figure it to be 700-800lbs. I don't know if this number should include fuel (I assume it does), so that drops the useful load by around 120lbs if you have a full tank.

i believe that the tag on the side of the door frame says that it's total weight to be held (including you) is supposed to be 680lbs. Although i'm sure it could be more and hold more, that's what the sticker says.

Right you are... I was looking for that before and couldn't find it (though I thought I'd seen it on a prior occasion), and now see that the reason is that the stickers are on different doors.

The one on the driver's door says 680lbs... The one on the 'suicide door' rates my car at the aforementioned 3809lbs. Is the latter number going to change depending upon the actual weight of your individual vehicle? If so, mine weighs 3129lbs... Which is a bit of a surprise, as I'd like to know where the "extra" 129lbs comes from, as mine doesn't have all the options and in theory would be on the lighter end of the scale, and I've never seen an instrumented RX-8 that even hit 3100lbs with all options.

Maybe the "extra" 129lbs accounts for a full fuel tank?

Mission Accomplished. Total time from Golden, CO to Austin, TX - 16 hours. All the beer made it. As far as the bootlegging laws go I did get pulled over between Amarillo and Witchita Falls (78 in a 70). Cop was friendly, as was I, got off with a warning. The five cases in the passenger seat were underneath a sheet, but there was some exposed Coors Light cases visible in the backseat, guy didn't say a word about it. Kinda scary moment when he walked to the front of my car, but I managed to pull my license plate out of the passenger footwell before he got back to the window. I asked him what the law was, in Texas, about front license plates. His response was that it is the law that it must be displayed on the front, but that he, and most officers, don't care if you at least have it with you. A few other points about the trip: if you ever have a chance to drive from Witchita Falls to Lampasses on 281 south, do it, beautiful Texas hillcountry drive. Never-Ever pull up behind any 18 wheeler other than the normal boxes, I pulled up behind one with a soft top and before I could pass him a big clump of dirt came off the back of the truck and dented my driver side fender, I should be able to pop it out, or get a shop to, easily, but it still sucks. (I'll post pictures of the beer load later)

Yeah, I was working in Houston during Rita and came home to Lake Jackson to help my parents evacuate. I took advantage of my mom's state and convinced her to let me "evacuate" her liquor cabinet to Austin. My buddies were happy and it was the only thing from the house that didn't make it. God I love college.
