im trading in my 8.

this is just absolutely rediculous it has been in the shop 10 times in two years. never miss an oil change take care of it and i still have problems its not even that great of a car to keep up with all the work involved. i dont see how you people do this by the way my engine has 7,000 miles on it. im tired of the 8. worst car experience ever. you people have no idea how much i want this to be a good car.

For a lot of us it is a good car. The only problems I've had with mine in four years were a CEL from the gas cap, and bending a wheel when I hit a pothole. Gas cap was replaced for free as part of a recall, and somehow I don't think Mazda was to blame for the pothole.

Yeah, I know how much you wanted it to be good. Nobody buys an off-the-beaten-track car like this without expecting it to be really special.

Can you list the problems you've had? That would be useful info for others who might have similar misfortune.

Ken

Wow. I've been to my dealership at least once a month in the past year for maintenance/parts/repair. You must be doing something wrong (or right?).

But I'd be interested in knowing the kind of issues you were having.

Umm, this is not uncommon when dealing with a fleet vehicle that's been used for that purpose for 3 years.

Found that info on your post a year ago...

May I ask why you bought a fleet vehicle?

Yeah, some cars(individual cars............not model, or even make) are just lemons. It appears as you may have just gotten one of those. Perhaps because it's Silver!
Anyway, I'm about 4 1/2 years into mine, and quite honestly, the only issue I've had is the sunvisor replaced under warranty. I can't recall another issue.....(knocks on wood).

i didnt buy it my parents did. i have been driving it for 2 years. im about to turn 18 in a week. the first year of my car countless times it has stalled at stop lights took it to mazda many times and all they would say is to rev it up before shutting it off. that never worked. i took it to another mazda dealership and they replaced the engine for free. its been 7,000 miles since then and it feels like it has lost compression once again maybe it could be the heat affecting it 100 degree days i live in birmingham. either way other cars dont do this i cant take it anymore. and it is a 2004 model. i thought getting a new engine would fix this problem i am wrong. mazda has really disappointed me with this one. i will not be getting a mazda again also my air conditioning went out and has been out for a while. i dont understand that. and many plastic covers have just came off of my car on the interior and no not from anyone hitting them or anything like that. i know the car is 7 years old but this is rediculous.

Sorry to see you go, better luck on the next car, and let your parents know that fleet vehicles aren't worth the discount.

Do they make 370z in automatic transmission? Just wondering.

Every single one I've seen on the road or in the dealership are manuals.

Don't know much about the Koup, but Tiburon is definitely not a reliable replacement. A reliable sporty FWD vehicles to consider would be a Acura RSX and Toyota Celica, not sure if you like them or not, but both will be more reliable than the Tiburon, and more fun to drive actually.

His situation is an invalid experience with Mazda or the RX8 period.

He bought a used car. That car was a fleet car that goes through alot of abuse.

It's Buyer be ware on Used cars.

When it comes to fleet cars or rental cars.. It can be much worse, or you could be lucky.

To blame a manufacturer or a vehicle brand and make on a used product just shows his inmaturity.

Sorry to see you go. For all cars, there is always the one that gives so much headache. I don't think the problems are with the RX8, rather with your particular unit. There are many in this forum who put their cars through gross scientific abuse (like redline once a day) and their cars are not giving as much trouble. While other owners have been having lots of problems.

Kia Koup is a decent car but it has no soul whatsoever. It is dry and designed to take you from point a to b. A hyundai Tiburon is OKish. It was on my list, but it troubled me that it looks really fast and sleek, but is a dog. Really good attempt from Korea. They should slap in a turbo in it to spice things up a bit.

My 8 has been the most reliable car I've ever owned (I've owed about 10 cars), I do simple maintenance per Mazda's schedule, and it's never failed to start except for one time when the battery died (when the car was 41 months old), which Mazda freaking replaced for free.

Another misleading 'black eye' thread to greet visitors to rx8club.com.

Needless to say, the title "im trading in my 8" doesn't allude to the fact that it was a used/fleet/abused car. The writer has a future in journalism. Writing for Fox News.

I'm tempted to start a new thread: "im gonna keep my 8 for a long, long time" - except, by and large, this is the home of bad RX-8 news, not the good stuff. Thank god professional auto journalists see the car for what it really is. Can you imagine a world where every moron's opinion has as much weight and exposure as those of a pro who's paid his journalism dues?

Frightening.

^I'm offended because your title – "im trading in my 8" – suggests to those just passing by or surfing the net that the car, in general, is a problem. Your particular car - used/abused/fleet owned - is a problem; that doesn't mean most 8's are. But your headline suggests otherwise, whether you realize it or not.

Unlike the time when editors decided what was published and what wasn't, there's nothing to stop you from writing whatever you like, however you like. Maybe that's the problem.

Anyway, sorry you've had problems with your car.
