I weighed my Rx-8 today....
6MT GT with all options except appearance package and navigation.
I even have the spare tire in the trunk. Mazda did a good job keeping the weight down, especially when you look at the quality materials its made of.

An excellenty executed tease! Thanks for coming through with the goods.
On the weight; That's pretty cool - I was under the impression they weighed just over 3000 (wet).
I wonder how much of a weight difference there is between a fully loaded GT and something like a 1SP package (sans sunroof, nav, spare and all that stuff)
Cool.
Simon.

? helium...
nah I was at the drag strip so I reduced them to 26 psi or so. everything was stock. Oh yea, I said 1/2 tank of gas, the needle was about 2.5 ticks below the 1/2 mark, in my experience that is closer to 1/2 tank, the gauge seems to read different then reality.

yeah... the helium thing was a joke...
But maybe the blue paint is lighter than the other colors!!! Again... a joke.
Thanks for sharing this with us zerobanger. You got your car weighed at the strip? If so, do drag strips usually have weighing equipment? I'm not very familiar with the drag racing thing.

Not disputing your numbers, just think it would be useful to hear.

Did the same thing a couple of days ago for my move to the east coast - 1/2 tank of gas 6MT GT = 2920. The weigh-in was on professional truck scales used at the supply dept at the base I'm transferring from.

Wow. I mean really. WOW.
I better tell the guys at the local truck weigh station (run by the state) to recalibrate (which they must do every day, by law).
My bone stock GT with appearance package, MT, NO SPARE KIT, a half tank and me (165 lbs wet) came out to 3180.
Mazda states the curb weight at 3029 (empty car with a full tank of gas), so I figured I was right on.

Hmmm...I had expected mine to weigh more as well, but when I saw another at the same weight I figured it must be true...I've since had my spare tire kit installed (but even then its shipping weight including packaging was only 43 lbs (kit w/ the tire included). Maybe gravity works differently out west? I'm actually headed to Maryland tomorrow. Maybe I'll see what it reads when I get there.

Why would you want to leave Cali to come here? Its freezing, our roads suck and gravity is way too strong here.
How long do you expect the drive to take?

I went to www.sacramentoraceway.com. They have two scales a digital scale and the normal old fashion scale , I dont know the technical names, but its the one where you set a base weight, in this case it was 2500, then you move the other weights to the right till it balances.
Its the same scale I weighed my 3rd gen about a year ago. My third gen weighed in at 2750 at the time. It was with the full exhaust including mid pipe which saved a good 60 lbs, no spare tire, etc. I know the weight is right on. My friend in is 02 trans am weighed after me 3550.

Hmm, that's wild.
Mine weighed on two truck scales at 3,090 and as they showed the same I thought they were right..
Mine is blue. Maybe they used lead paint..
That's going to hurt my GTech numbers for sure..

I'm wondering how accurate a truck scale would be for a 3000lb vehicle if the weights of interest are say, around 80,000 lbs?
Say you wanted to weigh 7 1/2 lbs of pastrami. A bathroom scale that's accurate to within a lb at 200 lbs might not be very useful for the task.

Excellent! I made a great decision getting the touring with black cloth then. I didn't care much for leather and I figured I'd get a little bit of a weight savings with no leather and all the electric options that come with the GT package. My butt stays pretty warm as it is.....

His was 2925, fully loaded luxo version...mine is just a 6 speed sport package. No sunroof, leather, power seats, spare tire, none of that. Have to save at least 125 lbs...don't you think?
