how safe is the rx8 with kids??

Car is pretty safe if you ask me. A deer ran into the side of my car while I was doing about 70mph on the highway. It ran right into my passenger suicide door (where my younger sister was sitting). SURPRISINGLY I only had a dent about the size of a softball. We were lucky. But it does have very good safety ratings. I would be confident with a child in it.

Only the Mazda RX-8 received the top rating of five stars in the latest round of testing using NHTSA's new avoidance maneuver driving test. A five-star rating indicates less than a 10 percent chance of a rollover.
Meanwhile the Mazda RX-8 four door with side impact air bag got four stars in all categories, with the exception of the impact of a front-end collision on a front seat passenger, which received a five star rating.

I don't know about you guys...
I love my RX8 and she is really important to me but I don't think I could trust her to be alone with kids. She is a bit of a party animal and if I left her home with kids she would end up teaching them all sorts of bad habits and corrupting them.
It might be better just to hire a babysitter.

There was a car accident a while back where some college aged kids wrecked a rx8. 4 people in the car. As I recall, the rear doors were damaged and the rear passengers were unable to escape the fire.
That would be my only concern - getting the rear passengers out. Besides that, the chassis is strong and it has a lot of air bags.
Of course, you can just as easily damage your front doors and become unable to escape. That's the risk of tiny windows.
