I've had a child seat in the back... seemed pretty secure and safe.
|
Car is pretty safe if you ask me. A deer ran into the side of my car while I was doing about 70mph on the highway. It ran right into my passenger suicide door (where my younger sister was sitting). SURPRISINGLY I only had a dent about the size of a softball. We were lucky. But it does have very good safety ratings. I would be confident with a child in it.

kids, hehe.... check the avatar. kid's as safe as the driver. Oh wait, then she's in some nasty danger.
|
Safety seems to be ok
Linky: http://money.cnn.com/2004/06/07/pf/a...vers/index.htm Only the Mazda RX-8 received the top rating of five stars in the latest round of testing using NHTSA's new avoidance maneuver driving test. A five-star rating indicates less than a 10 percent chance of a rollover. Meanwhile the Mazda RX-8 four door with side impact air bag got four stars in all categories, with the exception of the impact of a front-end collision on a front seat passenger, which received a five star rating. i wouldn't mind putting a kid or two in my 8. |

Its a death trap. Terrible handling and implodes when touched. It is actually used in some states for the death penalty.

as long as you dont put kids on the roof youll be fine.

Couldn't resist...
Depends on the color. There's a "cursed" color. |
The safety of your child in an RX8 is a function of circumstance.
|
I don't know about you guys...
I love my RX8 and she is really important to me but I don't think I could trust her to be alone with kids. She is a bit of a party animal and if I left her home with kids she would end up teaching them all sorts of bad habits and corrupting them. It might be better just to hire a babysitter. |
The Rx8 is not safe with kids because they will doodle on the car, treat it like their little hideout, push all the buttons till they fall off, honk the horn endlessly and have "accidents" in any of the seats.
Wait..I think I read that question wrong...:scratchhe |
If the kids are trained properly, then they will not hurt the car. But in general, I would fear for the car.
|
lol funny stuff

The RX-8 is a very safe car. I have seen many wrecks over the years and I can't think of one where someone was seriously hurt or killed.

Wait..I think I read that question wrong...:scratchhe i'd be more concerned about my 8 with the kids than my kids in the 8. :scared: |

Yeah, I am ordered to make her flame  The kids love it, the teachers, not so much. But now my son is 15 so his eyes are set on an 8. |
LOL at the responces

There was a car accident a while back where some college aged kids wrecked a rx8. 4 people in the car. As I recall, the rear doors were damaged and the rear passengers were unable to escape the fire.
That would be my only concern - getting the rear passengers out. Besides that, the chassis is strong and it has a lot of air bags. Of course, you can just as easily damage your front doors and become unable to escape. That's the risk of tiny windows. |
tank
http://community.livejournal.com/gearheads/740624.html end of thread edit: and as long as your car isnt silver |
