Having an Rx8 (or a rotary) is like being in a family! Ask Jay Leno

I Have had my rx8 for about 6 months and besides having some smartasses on this forum having an rx8 is like being in a family..Everytime you see an rx8 you tend to greet or wave to the other owner. Last week in vegas I saw about 9 rx8s and everytime I drove by one I would wave or see them wave in pride that they were a rx8 owner.. Today i was around melrose and while at johnny rockets eating, Jay Leno pulls up next to me in his rx8..he sees my winning blue 8 for a sec and when he sees it he look directly at me and says, "Is this yours" "Dont you love the rotary" Mind you im a 21 yr old sales manager who is learning about rotarys.. he orders his food and sits not too far from me after chatting with a friend. he turns to me and explains the rotary and how dynamic a rotary is. We see another rx8 in yellow make a turn at the corner he honks at our 8s and jay says having a rotary is like being in a family..he leaves and thats the end to my story...I have an s2k and the family of hondas is just competitive..having arotary is like being in a family!

Good stuff man! Did you happen to mention this forum to him? It would be awsome to see him post in here and give his input on certain topics.

Cool story, I wish more people in their RX-8 could be more friendly in my area.

Good story!

Jay is cool, esp. as he has and loves his RX-8. Another good New England (MA) boy made good. I think he exemplifies how you can grow up and even get famous (and rich), but not loose the boyish charm, friendliness, and sense of humor to match.

Appreciate you sharing this experience. Makes you wonder what his daily driver is, but I guess with all his choices, there isn't one.

You guys saw the article where Jay talks about his MX-5 and his RX-8? Although he mostly talks about the MX-5, and how it's one of his favorites of all his cars, he also sings some high praise for his RX-8. It's a fun read.

Heck, I'll post it on my website and you can check it out for yourselves if you like.

Since the first result for googling 'rx-8' brings up this website, I wouldn't doubt he knows about the forums already.

good post. Not to lessen the menaing, but anytime you are a part of something that isnt a part of the mainstream norm, it usually means you spent some actual time/effort researching it. IE: music, films, cars etc. So when thats teh case it makes it more special and you can appreciate the other people who spent the same tiem you did on it.
Again I dont have one yet, but I joined this forum because the idea of having a unique rotary driven car like the rx8, and not having to fork over a few hundred grand is fine by me!

Well said, SSJ 909! I feel this way about a lot of the things I do, and it's great to enjoy such a unique car with you guys!

PS: Very cool story

PPS: Doesn't Jay also have a bike with some sort of turbine or something? I don't recall what it is exactly...but he seems to have good taste in transportation.

I like Mr. Lenno, he is very funny and a major car guy. If he tells you something is good...it most likely is. Glad he likes our 8 and the MX5 so much.

As much as I like my RX8, I can't imagine driving one if I could choose anything out there. I guess when you've got it all you start appreciating when something is unique.
