Price seems a bit steep, especially for an auto. I think new leftover 07's were going for under $25k recently. Premium is recommended by Mazda so I would strongly suggest it. Not much more money in the long or short run. Also keep in mind the Auto in '05 has significantly less power than the 6MT.

I recommend going with a 2006 or newer automatic. The 2004-2005 automatics are only 4 speed and the power train is not as powerful.

The 2006 and newer are 6 speed automatic with a more powerful engine.

not a good deal. maybe if they knock 2.5k off the price tag. out the door too.

$17k out the door would be pretty nice.

If u must have AT, do as others have said and get an 06. You should be able to find one in that price range, just look harder and dont be afraid to give lowball offers, they may surprise you on what they will sell em for.

Definititely too expensive for a low-power 4-port automatic. The MT has a more powerful engine and is more fun to drive.

You should be able to negotiate for a used RX-8 with 10k miles for $16-17k with few options. Use that as a baseline. Don't be afraid to negotiate. If you're a good negotiator, you can usually knock of $4-5k for a used car on dealer's lot.

Best every price for a left-over Sport MT without performance package or any mods at all at the beginning of 2008 was $17k. But that deal required Ford financing IIRC. That's not common. So, yes you could do better.
