Engine Mount out of warranty?

Hi,

I have a 2005 Mazda Rx8 manual, and I have only done ~45K miles. I thought I had a 96K mile-8yr warranty on the power train, but apparently the engine mounts are not covered by it

That means that there's close to $1000 expense on this one... I am quite disappointed by the reliability of the car since I have already gotten the engine mounts replaced.

Have anyone else faced similar issues? How do you deal with this? Can you suggest extended warranty programs that can cover this?

Thanks!
M

Mines an 05 too and i have 36k miles on the odometer. I guess my motor mount warranty is over too. Anyway, mine shakes a little bit, but not seriously. Mazda should have the motor mounts warranty like the engine core warranty for 8yr/100,000 miles. Let's ask Mazda to do this compromise...lol

Check your warranty documents. 8 year / 100,000 miles is only on the "engine core". The rest of the powertrain is separate and shorter.

Orthonormal is correct. The engine core warranty is an extension of the factory Powertrain warranty, but ONLY for the engine itself.

Although, if you were in powertrain, the motor mounts still aren't covered in powertrain. Only in Bumper to Bumper.

If you are concerned about the reliability of the 8 just because of the motor mounts failing, then I recommend that you trade it in for something else. There are far too many failure points on this car to catch an unwary or unknowing owner by surprise. You have to understand and accept the known issues, and be vigilant against them to keep the costs down. If you aren't willing to do that then the car is not for you.

And $1,000 for engine mount replacement is rather high. There are far cheaper methods of replacement, places that won't fleece your pockets when you aren't looking.

RX8performance do a very good set of SS mounts for 1/4 of that.

how does that cost 1k?

pay me 1/2 and i will cover u parts and labor and it will be done about an hour.

but did u just said u just had it replaced? why would u need that again? my last mount replacement was 4 years and almost 40k miles ago and its holding up well.

Got it fixed!

Guys, thanks for all the input...

I got more details about it- the left mount was 180 something and the right was 200+, and the labor for this was 250. So, just to replace them, the dealer quoted 600+

Additionally, ignition coils had to be replaced , it seems and he had also added the cost of replacing oil coolant filter, whose sensor has gone bad for a long time.

I called up Mazda and told them that this is very bad in their cara that it keeps braking down so often, and they covered the engine mount and ignition coils with a deductible of $200. And, I decided not to change the coolest tank, since I keep checking the levels regularly!

It drives well now, but I've started to question its reliability... I have understood that its a high maintenance car and I am okay with that... But fundamental issues like this one relates to design, not the car itself. Anyway, thanks everyone for your input!
