coil pack and flooding question
i have a question i am looking to buy an rx8. the guy that has the car im looking at said that on long trips the car will flood itself and idle low adn if you are getting off the interstate it will most always die then start again after a few hours. he said he got new coil packs and that this will solve the problem. Has anyone else had this problem and if so will this fix it? Also he said that he has problems starting the car in the winter. What would i need to fix this problem so that it would crank right up year around?

The car should not flood at all on long trips, the car will only flood if you drive it a very short distance and the temperature meter in the cockpit barely moves away from "C". If its already warm from previous trip, it doesn't flood if u drive it a short distance.
If the car has difficulty starting after trip and has to wait a few hours, it sounds like an engine with bad compression that requires a rebuild. (feel free to correct me)

If it really is just the coil packs have him put new ones in before you buy the car. It sounds more like the car has low compression and is on the way out the door.
Typically the car doesn't flood like that, usually from people starting and stopping the engine quickly as stated by viksing.

^...............yiksing is on the right track. Non starts when warm/hot are signs of low compression. It could also be other things, but I wouldn't buy it without a proper compression check, so you know what you may be getting into.

find out if the owner has been turning his engine straight off after short distances and not allowing the engine to warm up as that is a no-no my mate use to and his car done the same thing and it cost 6000 pound to get it fixed! put a diasgnics kit (cant spell that word) to it and it should give you a fault code. pop the code on google and it will let you know whats up and if its worth buying.

thank you everyone for the information it was very helpful i will have him get it done before i go look at it to see what the results are and if he says tehy are good ill get it done again anyway
