NY Thoughts on Advance Auto Parts

I need to replace the fuel pump and secondary air injection solenoid, along with the ignition coils, wires and spark plugs. What are your thoughts/opinion in ordering from Advance auto parts? I know they're not OEM parts but its compatible as far as I know and less expensive.

I wasnt able to find the solenoid I need on that site thou.

The fuel pump from Adavance says Airtex but in the box is an Aaram pump (OEM Mazda). I'm not sure why it says Airtex. Coils (get lifetime warranty ones), wires, and plugs (oem NGK) will be fine as well.

Also, when ordering from Advance use the promo codes and you can have it shipped to the store or home.

Fwiw, I've used them for years, and I haven't had any problems.
I usually stay away from the cheaper options & get the lifetime parts if offered.

I twice have bought plugs from Advance with no problems and good prices. I have the BHR kit for my coils and wires, which should last the lifetime of my RX8. So I don't know the quality of any Advance "lifetime warranty" coils and wires.

Ask your local folks above advance. I am not a fan of the ones around here (Franchise). But the ones in Savannah are top notch. They got me a fuel pump on a Saturday. I have had it in for a few years and it has been grand.

Advance to my knowledge is selling quality parts and since buying out CARQUEST have only strengthen their ties with manufacturers and other sources so they don't have to resort to trying to pass off cheap crap

And Carquest owns WorldPac, which is the largest supplier of OEM parts for imported makes in the US outside of the dealer supply chains.

I believe all 3 of the solenoids are the same.

This is true. The company I work for recently started dealing with WorldPac business to business, I contact WorldPac on the daily and they have a large amount of parts available I can't source anywhere for commercial accounts, some stuff that were previously considered dealer parts only to smaller parts stores.

I just wanted to leave this here. I work for advance and we only stock quality parts. The reason our cheap brake pads are 20$ and some other placez have 8$ pads is quality. We could sell you the same 8$ pads if we stocked them.

Another thing dont buy coils or pads from us expecting to waratee Them out everytime the go bad. Most lifetime warranty stuff is against deffects only.

I am glad someone who works for Advance addressed this issue with warranted coils. Many here in RX8 club threads on coils believe they can just continue to use warranties to replace worn cheaper coils forever. Tanro is correct ,unless you can show defects, Advance auto won't replace your coils just because they have worn. A better longtime choice is to get the more durable BHR coils which cost more but should last the lifetime of your RX8. You can be "Penny wise, but pound foolish" as the saying goes.

good for you, but the Advance auto guys near me I know well and they would have only replaced them if they found them noticeably defective, not just worn. When I once considered going that route, that is what they told me. Luckily I chose to get the BHR kit, and I am happy I did !

Ugh I just reread that post grammar is horrible. Hate posting from my phone. Wifi card is out on my pc..

Anyhow, if the employees at your local store dont know anything about the fact these coils begin to fail after about 30k it will be easy to get over on them. So it jus it varies from store to store. However you are still basically stealing. Karma will go full circle.

It isn't a guaruntee for sure, but does work in many cases. At the end both solutions have their cons, especially when you start talking dwell times w/ the LS2 ignition setups that had been discussed over and over

Depends on how you view it. Mazda has already assessed a defect in older ignition coils due to their failure rates, which is depicted by their multiple revisions. One could justify that the Advance Auto coils are the older revision coils.

You can spin it multiple ways, but to state that it is stealing is not exactly correct. Ethically questionable yes ... theft, not exactly.

You know the coils we carry are OEM coils right? OE is the stuff mazda sells you, OEM is the stuff we buy from the same people that mazda buys from.

Unless the OEM is still making multiple revisions of the coils we are getting the newest one.

A lie by omission is still a lie. Theft by deception is still theft. If you go in with the attitude that you are gonna swap the coil out saying it is bad because it is defective instead of just worn out then yes you are stealing. If you genuinely thought the warranty was a lifetime warranty against failure then no. Especially if the just go ahead and warranty it out. But I would have to say you gotta be doing a good bit of driving to put 30k on a coil before it the warranty info purges from our computers. Or keeping good track of receipts.
