Advice on buying a Rx8 (please help)

So I've wanted an Rx8 since the first time I layed eyes on one, however since I have NO credit (not bad credit, but no credit cause I buy everything cash) I can't get a loan for anything lmao. Its funny how someone with bad credit has an easier time getting a loan then someone without any credit at all. Anyways we finally found a dealer nearby with an Rx-8 for sell that finances. I'm wanting to see if you guys think its a decent enough deal.

89k miles, automatic, silver, salvage title and it has a dent along the front fender above the driver side door

He wants to charge me 8900 for it, 2000 down and 200 dollars a month. I've got like 4400 dollars in the bank and I know I can't get one cash for that, so would you guys do it? I would have prefered a stick shift but what are you going to do. Also if I post a picture of it (the dealership has a website) can you tell me if the hood looks raised on it some? Any comments here would be great and I appreciate the help. Btw we are going first thing in the morning when my wife gets off work (its 12:49 am here for me and she gets off at 7am, I'm a night owl)

I look forward to posting pics and being apart of the community.

first thing that caught my eye was the hood it looks off. It was in a wreck so right there I wouldn't buy it, especially for that price. Its auto and high mileage.

You will end up paying slightly more but I would hold off for a car that has a chance of not being a major headache from the get go. Not to mention get what you want an MT you will never be happy with an AT if you dont want it.

just my two cents

well, the hood could be open if they were taking pictures and didn't close it all the way, mine looks just the same when it's released.

I wouldn't by it though, check the price on KBB.com on this car as if it had clean title. Price should be half of what you get on kbb. You go by that.

And if the damage was done in the front, run.......

Add another 1000 and get something nice, that it has not been damaged before and less mileage.

Yeah the hood looked off to me too. I'll have to ask them about that tommorrow when I go test drive it. Even if I don't buy it, I want to test drive an 8, I've never got to drive one yet :p I found another Rx8 in another town about a half hour further. 42k miles, 06 for 10.5 but the problem isn't the price, hell I'd pay 15k if I could just get someone who finances. That's why I'm so on the fence about his one...also as far as it being an auto over a stick, the wife can't drive a stick so I might HAVE to get an automatic, she refuses to learn to drive a stick shift (says she doesn't want to have to work when she drives)

Hehe wonder if I can get Gh8st to sell me his 8 for 4.5 down :p think sweet talkin would work on him? LMAO

for a 10k car all you need to finance is 6k, as you have 4k saved, and no one wants to finance you? thats odd... Have you tried calling the Credit Unions?

We went to a few banks around here and all of them looked at me like I was not all there because I came in there with no credit at all wanting a loan. I even had a co-signer who has great credit (as in he can walk into a car dealership and get any car he wants) but they still wouldn't work with me. It goes to show paying cash for everything and staying away from credit cards hurts you when you want to buy a car.

The only reason I'm even considering it is because I -want- an Rx8, I want my next car to be a car I'm in love with and this is it. When you buy from a "Buy Here, Pay Here" dealership they tack on a couple thousand for financing it themselves. Its a small dealership.

LMAO they have a 04 350z they want 19k for NINETEEN THOU, here's the site if you want to see other pics of the 8 and tell me what you think. He only wants 2k down. But I'm with you, 89k miles and has been wrecked, maybe I can talk him down?

I can see that it's an 05', I would offer him 7k and if he doesn't budge, start walking away. They will get you if they really want to sell it.

you should ask for carfax, dealers should provide that for free and see where the damage was on the car.

I'm glad to hear the hoods fine. Yeah the guy my wife talked to on the phone today (she knows how much I been wanting an RX8 and found this one for me, shes wanting us to buy it for me for my birthday may 15th) anyways the guy told my wife he didn't know much about "foreign cars" that's why he's sellin it cheap quote unquote. I'm definately going to take the KBB in and talk to him about the miles, carfax and all that. I want an rx8 bad I just don't know how long it'd be before I had the cash to buy one outright.

did you see the 350z, he wants 19k for that, which is funny to me, I found a 06 350z on st.louis craiglist for 4900 :p

What if he tells me he can't go any lower then 8k, financed?

Oh and also, I won't buy it outright when I go in there in a few hours, I'll test drive it, get the carfax and just get a feel for the car and the dealership. When I get the carfax and how much I can talk him down to, I'll come back on here and let you know.

I think half the reason I want one is to be apart of this kickass community fo rx8 owners :p

My dream rx8 will have aggressive ground effects, the hood tha Gh8st has, a aftermarket spoiler and then I want the car painted alien neon green with tribal hunter green thorns coming off the hood and down the side of it. Lol I made the car on Midnight Club one time :p

yeah, he could probably get 17/18k for the Z, it has only 19k miles and it's convertible.

The main thing is not to show him that you really want it, and that you are desperate as no one else will finance you. And make sure he doesn't lower the price for you and increase the interest rate to 15% or 20%, that would suck.

just note all the things that are wrong with the car, like, say you don't like that it is AT, dent on the door, you don't like the color, you really wanted blue...and try to lower the price because of those things. thats what I did, and it worked for me... but they called me after 3 days

Lol you have a good point, I might work out a conversation with my wife before we go look at it about another RX8 we are looking at that's in a better condition for about the same price. Also show reservations about the fact hat this one has been wrecked and is high miles.

I'll also keep a good eye on the interest rate. Do you have any advice on what I should specifically look for when I go look at the car? Any problems I should try to find?

KBB says a dealer would want 11k for it, but that was in excellent condition, this one has a salvage title, still has a ding in the front fender and has high miles. So I found this for aprivate seller, at FAIR condition and a good title its 7,725, they are saying I should want to pay less. But this is a dealer and it is being financed..thoughts?

well, test drive it, see how it drives. ask if they have any documents of previous maintenance, look if bakes are changed, tires also, ignition coils, spark plugs, and wires. Just little things like that, and if they have any paper work that would be nice.

But most importantly, sense the car have been hit before, try to find out if it was hit in the front or the back, very important. I wouldn't buy if it was hit in the front, but thats just me....

like I said, test drive it, see if everything is ok, let go of the steering wheel while driving see if it pulls to the left or the right, see if the transmission is responsive, listen to the engine, see if it has power, don't be afraid to red line it, its not yours, and tell them that all you can afford right now is 7k and that you have to go see another one and leave your cell phone.

I'll definately get some input before I go through with the final purchase. From what I can see on the front fender above the wheel well I'm thinking that it was hit in the side. I wish I had a pictuer of the dent so I could show ya. But I'll take that into consideration. If its been hit in the front I'll definately run away unless they offer me asweet deal like 6k or something :p but these guys are pretty money hungry I hear. I think they charge what they want because they finance anyone. I'll probably tell them I can go as low as 7,5k financed for that car and they can call me if they want to sell it right away.

But then agian, I could NEVER own a 8 and that's a scary thought. :p

Oh while I'm thinkin about it, with a sunroof and leather and all that, can you tell what style of car it is (gt and all that)

I don't know what the rates are right now, but please don't get a high rate like 20% just because you want the car and no one will finance you.

if you get like 10% interest rate, than I would try to pay it off very fast and you would not lose any money

He said a guy brought it in as a trade in on a truck, I bet they gave 4k in trade in value for it.

If I had 7k cash I would definately offer them 7k and stick to my guns, but being financed, I don't know if they will go lower then 7,5k if that low. Remember these guys ADVERTISE being the people to go to when you don't have good credit.

just don't come across as desperate, give them a firm offer tell them all the floes and things that you don't like, and I think you will get what you want.

just make sure you look through the car very good as you don't want to pay so much money for a salvage title car and have something go bad down the road. it will cost you lot more.

I wonder why they don't have pictures under the hood, as I would like to see if everything is ok under there. This car would've look so much better with the appearance package, just to let you know, the front lip, the little side skits

you could bring that up

So just to recap what I should bring up (4 more hours till I go test drive her, I'm excited, even if I don't buy it)

1. 89k miles
2. Dent
3. Salvage Title
4. Not my color
5. Not a stick shift
6. At most KBB lists it as 7,7k
7. Its going to be a bitch to get worked on around here (I live in a poor part of missouri where there aint ****)
