About to bite the bullet....
Im just about to buy an 04 GT with 60k on it, however im a bit nervous. I keep hearing stories of how so many models need the engines replaced and are having problems. Im a college student and cant afford those repairs, as long as those repairs would be covered under the extended warranty that would be fine then. I ran the carfax and it came back fine but i saw nowhere on it about the engine being replaced, so im assuming it has the original motor. Im very apprehensive about this and not quite sure what to do...Should i drop the coin on this car if it has the original motor?

Assessing that risk is something only you can do. If things end up going south and you need to fix some stuff will it just be hard to deal with or will you be completely fscked? Don't do it if you're not in a position to take care of things if you need to.
As far as the car itself. Find out what you can about the maintenance history. Have a Mazda dealer compression test run on the engine make sure there's no obvious internal wear damage.
Make sure that the recalls were performed and that the 100k miles / 8 year engine warranty is still in effect. If so, then in the event of engine failure, you can have it replaced under warranty for about $5-600. (You can call MazdaUSA customer support and give them the VIN for this info)
Definitely read over the threads on the site here. There's a huge amount of info if you dig for it.

you need to reed up on how to take care of your car. make them change out all plugs wires and coils, if you do buy thatll have it running smooth. and redline it daily. keeps carbon out. carbon blows... literally.
after i spray. my car runs so good because all the carbon and **** in the engine is gone. i love it

Get a different car for college.
This car costs too much money while going to school.
If you need a new engine, it will cost you money, time and a grade.
You may have to fight for a rental, all the auxlliery costs are at your expense.
Expect to spend at least 800 bucks.
Things not covered... plugs, coils, wires, belts, motor mounts, etc.

Well i am a bit of a gearhead myself, ive owned 2 mustangs and have enjoyed the time with the cars, however i know this car is much different but ive always been fascinated by them and i love the styling, one of the best looking cars around
Before i went any further i was gonna take the car down to the Mazda dealer and have them look it over and run a compression test as well. Anything else i should have them do or look at specifically?
Also i appreciate the help and tips, some very knowledgable members here so it helps the confindence knowing theres help around
