Does the seat get more comfortable (does the seat break-in)
I know I am going a little crazy here on the subject of the seat but it's really bothering me since I just bought the car.
After driving around today and noticing how I sit in the drivers seat (power heated leather) I think I have realized my problem is the bottom cushion I just don't find comfortable . . .
I thought the part that sticks up in the very back was the cause but I realize I don't sit close enough to it for it to bother me.
Anyway, does this seat break in and get more comfortable ? FDoes it form to the butt sorta speak
I've done a search and I see a lot of people find these seats very comfortable so I am hoping to enjoy this seat as well.
thanks for any advice you can offer . . .

I haven't noticed a change in the 5,700 miles I have put on my car. I have owned it since 10/20/03. I drove it about 3k miles back in Dec. in a 5 day period and I have to say that I found the seats very comfortable. My wife on the other hand had a hard time with the drivers seat? She said it made her very uncomfortable and she couldn't drive for more than an hour before she would start to complain. We are about the same height but who knows. I thought maybe she would be more comfortable if the seats were made out of extra thick "memory foam" aka "space foam". I just don't know if they can handle the seat warmers (of course according to some people they wouldn't get hot enough to cause a problem anyway). Maybe if you were going to upgrade the seat cushions you could also upgrade your seat warmers .

Everyone is built differently. Car manufactures they try to design the seats around an average set of measurements. You can take two people that are exactly 6 ft tall 190lb but have different arm, leg, and torso lengths. I guess your question would be better answered if you posted some of your measurements [like height, inseam, waist, weight, etc]. Then someone with similar features could chime in with their experience.

An excerpt follows. "07-19-2003 - Then the dark side:
1) Seats are not comfortable over 1 hr. Just got back from a 3 hr trip, and my *** is sore. Didn't expect this, hasn't happened since I had a '95 Civic and had to put cushions in it. Maybe it's my particular construction (155lbs, 5'8"), but I don't feel like taking a long trip in this car. It's not that the seats are not feeling good or don't fit right, they just don't have padding where I need it, where my bones are. Maybe if I play more with the adjustments.. I hope!
And I'm happy to report somewhere along the way that all went away... in fact me and the misses were commenting recently just how comfortable the 8 was on trips, considering it is a sports car and all!
:D

Do you have the 8-way power seat (you should if its a GT w/Leather)? Have you tried tilting the seat bottom up or down. The back and front of the bottom both can be moved up or down as well as the entire bottom seat can go up and down. Try playing with the controls some more......

Thanks for posting this, I REALLY appreciate it !!! I was telling one of our fellow 8 owners that I remember when I used to hate 4 door sedans because I felt so uncomfortable when I had a 330 Coupe and they gave me a 3 series sedan as a loaner. Then I bought the 330 sedan and low and behold afte living with it, I got used to the it and felt it was extremely comfortable . . .
I really think it's that I am used to sitting higher up (coming form a sedan as well as also driving my wife's SUV) and when I am sitting lower in the Mazda, my body hits the seat differently then I am used to. Once these parts get used to that feel, it will start to feel natural and comfortable.
Thanks again your post really hit the nail on the head !!!!!

Seat suits me just fine.... It's not a foam-filled Caddy coozie but it's a damn comfortable seat for a sportscar. I'm 6'1, 185 pounds. If I needed a seat-belt extension when I fly or something drastic and chub-town like that, hell it might not be comfortable, but for my size, it's more than okay.....

My seats are very comfy, even on the 1,300 mile trip we took to Fla. I personally do not like leather (slick, sticky, slippery when on the really twisties, and all around dislike) so I got the cloth. No problems here with comfort!

I also think the seats are great!
In fact it's very hard to go from the 8 to an average car and not feel some discomfort.
The longest I've sat in them was a little over 2 hours.
Comfy all the way!

My retired-Accord and Odyssey were/are far less comfortable than the RX-8 leather. Part of the problem was the lack of adjustments on the Hondas. I also think the RX-8 just fits me better. The Accord had little if any lumbar and the Odyssey had the wrong bottom seat angle. With the RX-8 I can dial in what I want. I think the RX-8 bottom seat stiffness varies some with how the elevations are set.

As an update to this thread in case anyone inthe future has this problem, my car now has over 500 miles on it and the seat has broken in and is now very comfortable.
Thank goodness because it would really stink to have to have the dealer or an upholstery shop have to mess with my seat.

I've taken a 13 hour trip, and have 9k miles on my car.. The seats feel the same as before...
I have noticed though that seat positioning makes a big difference in comfort and driveability..
When my friend drives my car, she lays the back of the seat down to drive, I find that really uncomfortable. I have to have my seat close to the wheel, and sit almost upright.

Find the seat comfortable overall - but I have to adjust the tilt of the bottom cushion forward to get a position good for me. I have the power driver's seat - heated. The back and the bottom are quite independent of each other. In fact there about a 1 inch space between them if the bottom is tilted back and the back reclined. Everything tends to slip thru to the back seat - including my butt. Ha Ha John
