500 miles and transmission problem?

Just curious...when my rx8 is in neutral it sounds like a choo choo train. When I push the clutch to the ground it goes away.

My transmission in my rx7 is going bad and making the same noise, but louder. I have 174K on my rx7's tranny so I expect that. Is this normal for the rx8 or is my transmission bad?

Does it go choo choo :p Maybe you could record a sound bite and play it for us.

Mine sounds closer to a bullet train and goes wooosh :p

Might be the Clutch Release Bearing.

Mine sounded strange and when I took it to the dealer, that is what they said needed to be replaced. There are some dealers saying it is normal and others saying there is a problem. When in doubt, go to the dealer and let them spend money replacing and fixing it.

I'm getting the same sound (I think) it's sortuva grinding/scraping type noise and it's louder now than 2 weeks ago. I need to drop the 8 off and have em look at it but have been putting it off because of logistical issues, i.e. my dealer is 25 miles from my work and I doubt seriously that they courtesy-drive that distance.

My 8 does the same thing. With the clutch engaged (pressed in), there is no noise, but when it is not pressed in and not in gear, there is a weird noise. Is this normal on ALL 8's, or just a few? Hope it's not anything to worry about.

I just brought it to my rotary mechanic and he said he has been in 2 other rx-8's from his customers that make the same sound.
