Extended Warranty

Is it worth it.

I got the 3 year 60,000km Warranty. They said that I can always upgrade to an extended warranty before 20,000km. Just wondering if it would be a good call, or a waste of money ?

Did anyone else get the extended warranty, and why ?

i got it mainly because it covers also all of the electronic and computer stuff for 7 years as well as towing reimbursement and rental reimbursement. it was what my wife and i consider to be a negligible increase in our payments and i intend to keep this car for at least 10 years.

I bought the 7 yr/100,000 StatedCare Warranty. Dealer asked for 3000. Yikes. We dealt him down to 2280--supposedly below *his* cost, which he showed us was $2510, but I have my doubts

/Yeah it was very expensive, but since this is a completely new model, I am expecting alot of problems large and small here and there (like I did with my 2001 Audi TT). I can't imaging having to pay for any of it, especially when most breakage will start after the basic 48/50k warranty expires. Add the fact that this is a new model and costs will be generally higher than cars that have been around for several years.

But I thought it was worth it, for the following reasons:

1. The warranty backer isn't a third party who could be out of state or even out of the country (there is a huge ordeal about this at the moment in one particular company that was located out of the Cayman Islands that had their policies sold by the craploads by many dealerships... It's true (I did my research on third party warranties before taking the 'plunge')... They closed shop, or should I say, 'skipped town'.

2. The warranty covers the following:

Since I plan to own the car for about 5 years, there's no point for me to get one -esp since Mazda provides a 4year one here in the US.

I wonder if the Cylinder Block; Cylinder Head(s); Harmonic Balancer; Timing Chain, Timing Belt, Balance Shaft Belt, will be translated into unique rotary parts, like apex seals... Just a thought...

Most VSCs (vehicle service contracts) do not state coverage for rotary specific hardware, therefore the provider can always argue it wasn't covered in the contract, which is why I opted to go with Mazda's. Of all warranties available today, I would expect Mazda to cover their own cars, since they are the only car maker that offers rotary-engine cars...

With most warranties, you can be screwed if rotary parts are not specifically covered in the contract. While Mazda doesn't indicate rotary parts either, at least you have a valid argument... and can safely assume they'll cover their *own* engines.
