Has plenty of power when driving. I have replaced throttle body plugs coil fresh oil and coolant I have read about properly starting and turning off rotary engine can someone please help me get it running right it's my project and I need help as I'm u. Familiar with rotary. Thinkin ssv with 0661 code but would that cause all codes please help and thanks in advance hopeful rotorhead 😜

P2259 - AIR solenoid valve control circuit low
P0661 - SSV solenoid valve control circuit low
P0410 - AIR system problem
P0506 - Idle air control system RPM lower than expected

https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tec...n-guide-26291/

Keeping the Engine at an idle:
Ignition Coils
Spark Plugs
Spark Plug Wires
Engine Compression
E-Shaft Sensor (ESS)
Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAF)
Front O2 sensor
Catalytic Converter (Cat)
Intake Vaccum

What affects generating Power at Full Throttle:
Ignition Coils
Spark Plugs
Spark Plug Wires
Engine Compression
E-Shaft Sensor (ESS)
Air Filter
Intake Valving
Throttle Body
Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAF)
Fuel Pump
Fuel Injectors
Catalytic Converter (Cat)

RX8 Club’s recommended maintenance schedule, more comprehensive and proactive than Mazda’s schedule.
30,000 miles:
- Replace Ignition coils
- Replace Plug wires
- Replace Spark plugs
- Clean MAF (mass air flow sensor)
- Clean ESS (e-shaft sensor)
- Reset ESS profile
- Clean power steering connections
- Clean battery terminals and clamps
- Replace transmission fluid
- Replace coolant (Mazda FL-22 is highly recommended)
- Replace air filter
- Replace brake fluid (fluid in the brake lines AND the clutch line)
~$300 USD in parts if you shop smartly.

every 60,000:
...all 30,000, plus...
- Clean all chassis electrical grounding points
- Replace accessory belts
- Clean OMP lines
- Replace rear differential fluid
- Replace thermostat
- Clean / Straighten AC condenser fins
- Clean / Straighten oil cooler fins
- Inspect catalytic converter
- Clean / Inspect intake valving
- Consider / inspect all points in 90,000+ as well, many items fail early
~$130 USD in parts if you shop smartly.

90,000:
...all 30,000, plus any 60,000 not yet done, plus...
- Replace coolant bottle
- Replace radiator hoses
- Replace radiator
- Replace front O2 sensor
- Replace motor mounts
- Inspect clutch pedal assembly for flex / weld breaks
~$900 USD in parts if you shop smartly.
At 100k, anything original in the cooling system is really suspect and failure prone. It represents the biggest threat to your engine.

Important: Have you had a rotary-engine specific compression test done on your engine? If not, you need one to know what shape it is in. You may have other problems also, but if you got the car for "practically nothing", it very well may have a failing engine with low compression .

What year, trim, and original mileage is the car? Is the motor original, or has it been replaced at some point ?

04 touring 77k and original it has new plugs wires coils. Just replaced mass air flow and throttle body. Had compression checked as well tho I don't think it was rotary specific I didn't know there was such a thing but it was good according to the tech. I do have the above mentioned codes tho. I bought the car from a well trusted friend the only problem is it has been sitting for about three years. I was thinking that the ssv could be the cause of those codes as it may be stuck closed. It's in perfect condition otherwise and it's a project. I'm really wanting to know if it's fixable or should I just buy a new engine? Thank you for the help so far.

Use the link above and scroll down and read this rotary compression thread and see the results chart on second page of new owners thread. Unless you had a rotary-specific compression test done at a Mazda dealer, or by someone with specific rotary compression testing gear, you are just guessing at the health of your engine. If I was you, that would be a first priority. Then once you REALLY now the health of your engine, you can address this and everything else.

for any 04 RX8 you want to make sure it had the upgraded starter installed and had the newer ECU flash done. These two upgrades from Mazda helped solve many startup and running problems.
