Neutral Safety for 6sp MT

Paul,

I have the hunting idle issue in my 04' due to the failed neutral safety. I believe I have the part narrowed down to Y612-17-640B from thread 130591. Looks like it you offer the part shown here, but I was unable to locate an exploded parts view to confirm correct fitment for the manual trans. I need the part that mounts in the top driver's side of the tranny. Any recommendations for the easiest tool for removal?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Yes, that is the correct part. You're you getting hunting idle. That is one of the symptoms.

Paul.

Buy a deep well 27mm throw away socket. Cut a slot in it like an O2 sensor socket. Took me longer to make the socket than replace the part.

Thanks for the parts view, but I think that made me more confused... Does 17-640B superseded 17-640A?

17-640A is on the driver's side of the trans while 17-640B is jst hanging out there.

The confusion is related to the fact that all the numbers in that diagram are meant for a Mazda parts person. They are known as D Codes and they are not the actual part number. We use the D code to look up the part number and D Codes often resemble the part number but they are NOT the part number.

Hope that helps.

Paul.

Clever Mazda... bet they could sell the diagram decoder ring and make a fortune. Again, thanks for the assistance.

Was it hunting idle all the time? Or just occasionally?
