Super Sensitive Rx8 Alarm

I have a 2005 Rx8 that I just bought used. I was told that no work had been done to it that wasn't anything factory-installed so as far as I know it has the original car alarm in it. I have so many problems with the alarm going off all the time! If a loud car or motorcycle drives by it goes off. If a squirril runs across the hood it goes off. If it's storming outside and thunder cracks too loud it goes off. My neighbors have started complaining because it is waking their kids up in the middle of the night a lot... Is it possible to de-sensitize the alarm so that it only goes off when something is actually happening to my car? Or if that isn't possible, is there a way to just turn it off alltogether?

Most likely the alarm shock sensor upgrade. It is a little device located in the passenger side footwell. If you dont want it, ill take it!! Here is a pic:

I think there must be a way to adjust sensitivity.
must be under a rubber cover on the device.

assume it's using stock shock sensor, its located underneath/behind the glove box. Look at there, it should be mounted at the brace, it's a little square-ish box that has a little red light on it, when you shake the car, the light turns on. there is a little **** next to it to adjust it's sensitivity. From your "cat runs over hood = alarm goes off" or "nothing happens unless you physically smack the sensor"

how I know? I installed the shock sensor myself.

Small black box high up on the passenger footwell doorpost, behind a piece of plastic trim. Has a **** on it for sensitivity.

This thread has good pics....

Yup, I have the same issue, I installed the shock sensor ages ago and its set a bit too sensitive still. My Evo sets off the RX-8 alarm every time I pull into my parking space. My neighbors love that I'm sure.

I also have this problem on my 2004, I just got the car recently and it was a repo and doesn't have the original key or remote.

The alarm seems to go off right after I lock it which has only happened 3 times that I know of, it's stored in an apartment parking garage at night so this is a big problem for me.

Will getting this sensitivity upgrade solve this?
