Sport Compact Car's 100 greatest cars list
I haven't seen the issue yet, but someone from the RX-7 Forum posted it.
This looks like a list some ricer put together. Seriously, the EG is number two, and the EVO is number one? The Mitsu fans will be a'cheering this, but they all know deep inside their days are numbered.

Of the many questions this list raises in my head, one I just can't help to ask. Why is the 1990 Miata and then 1999 till the present miata on the list, but not all the other years for those 2 generations?

Well, fir5st of all, this is a list of the 100 greatest sport compacts. Second, t's a subjective list that incorporates more than performance. Historical significance, innovation, 'cool' factor, etc., all play a part. The WRX going on sale in America, when there was no proven market, was a lot more significant than us also getting the STi. As they say in the magazine, if the WRX hadn't sold so well, we never would have gotten the EVO.
Of course, the stock EG Civic couldn't hold a candle to many of the cars on this list, but it's certainly the definitive and ubiquitous sport compact. You talk about aftermarket support . . .

They had to put the Civic on #2 spot, it never misses a mag issue. I bet there's always a Civic on their issue. They know that majority of their buyers/readers own or are fans of modded Civics.

I disregard this list because IMO Sport Compact Car magazine is not the most credible or balanced source. Yes, like all magazines they have their opinions and views, but I believe that SCC and its editorial staff are way into themselves. IMO a magazine that delivers specs and commentary on actual cars is better than a mag which focuses on the ppl who build/promote them. When I read a mag, I want to find out about the cars which interest me, their performance and how they acheived it. I don't want to hear the editorial mumbo jumbo about how they really like it or don't like it based on their personal bias.
IMO Modified Magazine is a much better put together auto enthusiast magazine, plus it gives plenty of attention to rotaries too.

This list doesnt make sense in the least bit. How do you put a 92-95 Civic SI at #72 then 92-95 Civic at #2? Not to mention no mention of the Mustang or Camaro or T/A at all. Are you kidding me?

If you know a good amount about sport compacts you could certainly find a way to justify most of the cars and their position on the list. However, the 90-94 Eclipse at #18 and then the 90-94 Talon at # 80 is a bit baffling.

Everybodie's going to find fault with where their favorite car is on the list....who cares....all 100 are cool cars. I'm glad all the cars I've owned are on the list, AE86, MA61 Supra, FB RX7, FC RX7, RX8.

SCC is a very biased magazine, though they still can be a good read from time to time, especially the older issues. I'm currently awaiting on my free Grassroots Motorsports so I can subsrcibe via snail mail. I'm also looking for RX-Tuner, but I can't seem to find any in my area (nothing but Mustang and ricer mags on these shelves).

A very entertaining list to read, but kind of weird results.
The RX-8 is the highest ranking Mazda model, which is cool. But the original '78 RX-7 is the one that most other mags list in their top “this or that” list. It’s the car that really put the Rotary and Mazda on the map after all. I'd say the Miata is also a more signifcant car in the history of automobilia than the RX-8. Go figure.

I'd say the RX-8 and the 350Z are high on the list because they are fresh in people memories and the hot new thing. It's like looking at a greatest records of all time list, they always put some recent records on there that vanish from the same list a few years later. Not saying the RX-8 and the 350Z don't deserve to be on the list but a few years from now either of them could easily move up or down considerably while most of the older cars would probably hold their spot.
