My Car: 1999 Mercury Cougar V6

Just thought I'd share my current car with you guys. I'll probably be selling it within the next few months, once I graduate college and get a decent-paying job, and buy an RX-8.

I'm gonna miss this car, because even though it gave me many problems (made by Ford, hehe), I learned a lot about cars, everything from dropping the tranny to replace the flywheel, replacing brakes, suspension components, and other small problems I've had recently. I also learned how to install stereo systems, neon lighting, cosmetic and performance modifications.

But the car is 6 years old and it's time to move on, plus every month there's something wrong with the car. My latest problem was the axle rubbing against the power steering line, so I had to cut a tube and put it inline to stop the leaking. Such a shame that a sharp-looking car has so many problems. Oh well here's my SoundDomain site for the car. Enjoy, and thanks for looking.

Interestingly enough, I just traded in my '94 Cougar last month for my RX-8. For what it's worth, I enjoyed the car, other than the first transmission replacement at 65,000, the engine rebuild at 70,000, and the second transmission replacement at 110,000. But hey, who's counting.

I'm hoping to get at least 7K for it. Book value is around 6, so I figure with the extra stuff I should be able to get a little more, especially if some kid buys it.

Good luck getting more value out of it. Sale by owner is the best way to accomplish that.
Hope you enjoy the RX-8 when you get out of school.

yes I realize I will get nothing for it if I trade it in, so I hope to sell it privately. But if it doesn't work out, and I have to trade it in, I'm definitely stripping the car of everything I can, and will part it out to people over on the Cougar boards.

My son has a 93 Cougar, 140+ miles and no leaks, no replaced trannies, etc. Runs great. Hope I don't jinx it but so far so good.

I always liked the kit for the Cougar that made it look like the 2nd Gen Eclipse.

I'm trying to talk my wife into letting me unload my '99 Cougar now. I never had a problem with mine though.

with highschool graduation approaching, i'd think you could get what you want out of it.

I can appreciate someone spending that much time with their ride.
