RX8 victory at 24 hours of Daytona!
Sylvain Tremblay and his team won the 24 hours of Daytona GT class for the 2nd time in 3 years. They had a 4 lap lead on the 2nd place Porsche GT3. They finished 8th overall out of 15 Daytona Prototypes and 30 GT cars! The car is a Riley/SpeedSource 3-Rotor tube chassis race car.

They were behind the whole time but then the Porsche get owned by engine problems and a bad rear shock near the end...
But damn I think I started to like the new front end now...with the race bumper hehe

Damn spoilers....
(Actually, I finished watching my recording before I went to sleep last night, but not everybody may have..)
That being said, great race, and a great finish by the Mazda teams as a whole.

Speedsource is obviously a pretty incredible team.
Any ideas why the RX-8 isn't more competitive in the ST class? It was very competitive a few years ago.

The ST car was competitive when they had the big team running it. They had 4-5 cars out of SpeedSource and then 2-3 privateers running as well. Now its just the privateers. Also like most other series they tweaked the rules since 2005 to allow other makes to be more competitive.

The GT RX-8 looks amazing. The funny thing is people on other forum sites were all scratching their head over the weekend trying to figure out how these RX-8s kept up with the 911 and Corvette. Goes to show you that you can fool a lot of people on a marketing level with your racing program.

You also have to remember that the rules are different for each make. Grand-AM does a good job at evening out the playing field with weights, aero changes etc. The 3 rotor wouldn't have a chance if the V8 Corvette wasn't limited to air flow etc. The only big advantage the rotary would have is reliability over big hp V8's. All the cars are about 400 - 500 hp with weight added/subtracted to make them competitive.
