Talking Looking to buy an 8, but need a little help....

Hello to all,
I would like to say thanks to all you in this forum for helping me decide on purchasing an 8 over a Z, I found your posts very detailed and quite helpfull but need a little help in the $$$$ area when it comes to getting a good deal.
I am looking to purchase an '05 Rx8 GT, new from a dealer ..actually test driving it tomorrow afternoon!. But i was hoping to get some feed back on pricing. I was wondering if $34k was a reasonable deal or if you think the '07 model would be worth the wait.....

Thanks again,

future 8 owner

34K is a very decent price. Is this with taxes or no? Remember that the GST is going down to 6% in the near future ... so if you can hold out until then, you can save even more cash!

The 07 model ... we don't know what new features are in store. some people say it will have a few cosmetic modifications but others say it'll be more or less the same. My bet is on minor modifications. Mind you with the '07 you will not be getting such a good price as with the '05.

Thats taxes in, and I didnt think of the tax change....
I also heard some talk about a larger engine? possibly a 1.5?

I didn't think there were any '05 left. So, you're getting 10k off?

I heard the 2007 Rx8 will be essentially the same except for some new color?

but 34k sounds like a smoking deal if it is brand new ( non-demo/executively driven)

$34K is great, if the car is in new condition; I still consider 'executive driven' cars as used cars, regardless how well-paid the driver might be. Is a used Porsche any less used if a millionaire is driving it instead of a fellow that earns ten million dollars a year?

The one percent drop in the GST on a $34K car is not much - about $340, actually - which is what you'll spend in gas in the first three weeks of ownership. Besides, can you wait two weeks? And can you guarantee that the 8 will still be there?

He who hesitates is lost...

I think you are right.. I leave for the dealership in about 30 min, took the day off so I wouldnt be rushed when testing.

I'm yet to see SE (Shinka) sell for $34k. I don't think there were '05 SEs in Canada in '05?

yeh there was Shinka in 2005 ( they weren't SE). The black cherry ones with Beige interior ( no alcantara)

the Shinka for 34k sounds like a great deal since it is limited edition ( but still for sale a year later, so I guess that doesnt mean much) so the resell value should be a bit better. you also get little things like polished Rims, piano black panels around the center beam (?!) and on the steering wheel + leather wrapped Ebrakes and bin cover etc... In the long run I think the shinka will hold the value a little better. But i know some people think the Purple look is a little feminine and the beige interior is too hard to keep clean, so its really up to you!! either way you can go wrong!! cuz RX8 ROCKS!!!!

Darn, I don't know what I was thinking. I bought a feminine looking car or if you want to make it sound a bit more masculine, you call it copper red.

But still, 17k drop since 2004.. amazing

Smile Definitely want my 8...

Got back from a few dealerships today, including one Nissan..

Tested a '04 350z 6MT, DB, perf trim had almost 40k on it...Pretty much the same as the '03's i have tested and still had tranny noise. Great engine, awsome road presence, but it just handles like a brick and I cant convince myself that 2 golf bags will fit.....

I went to a couple of Mazda dealerships, the first was for the black GT for $34k+ 14% tax ( I was told taxes in...) anyway, dealer sold the vehicle last night and it was a shinka (so the sales guy said) ... off to dealer # 2 my backup plan.

Dealer #2 has several "05's in stock (not sure why) but i tested a Velo Red GT ( Sales Mgr's Demo car) I couldnt believe the difference between the 2 cars having driven the Z just 30 min before. I know now that I want my 8 more then ever!..
Now the hard part, this dealer is quite reputable and has a lengthy track record for quality both sales and service. I told the sales guy my bottom line, he gave me his and we knew that a comprimise could be found.....to cut things short i know i could probably get $35495 +14%tax on my choice of White (has spoiler), Silver, Black, all GT's.. I think I am getting a pretty good deal but some feedback from you owners would be great.
Oh and the sales mgr told me that the dunlops were better then the bridgestones? would someone be able verify this for me? from personal experience ...

Thanks again!

if dealer #1 can sell the new black GT for $34k + tax then I dont see why Dealer #2 can't go lower than $35.5k + tax

but $35.5k is a pretty decent and I think thats pretty much the avg market price for a new '05 now. I'm sure you can get them to go even lower since they have so many on the lots ( on top of all the '06 they have)

If maybe you should be able to get dealer #2 to meet you half way of the price offered by dealer #1 ( so ~ $34,75?)

Not sure on the Tires, my '06 came with the Dunlops

nothing wrong with Cooper Red! Thats what I drive, nothing faminine about it!! very masculline indeed

Its the 2005 Black cherry Purple that I think might be a little feminine

Ya, I am not sure about Dealer #1.. they were trying to sell me on an '06 after telling me that the '05 was sold..

I sent Dealer #2 a similar quote as to what you suggested and hopefully he will agree

Thanks again for your replies (muchly appreciated)
I hope to have my 8 by SAT!!!!!!!

^^^ Dealer#1 = bait and switch!

Good luck with your purchase ... the 35K+tax is still not bad but mind you that comes to almost 40K which is what I paid for my '04 back in 2004. Then again we (Albertans) only have the GST tax to contend with.

Thanks for all your input BF, it was much appreciated.
So I am looking at $40k everything in... I still think its a good deal and I am looking to purchase this weekend (if I can get my LOC setup fast enough!)

* i lived in alberta for 3 years, working for my uncle in a small town called "Entwistle"( heard of it?) it was 1 hr west along Highway 16 i think.. (cant remember now) anyway it was on the way to jasper! I was actually planning a road trip out west ...(was kinda hoping the oilers would win the cup so I could visit a couple of buddies and party it up!)*

Also did the white come in pearl? the white 8 i saw looked like it had a pearl paint job...

Your discount is around what people were paying for '05 not so long ago, 6-7k off. You might ask them to throw a couple of accessories in (alum fuel door, spoiler, locking nuts, clear corners, etc. - depending what you like).

You can go lower; with that kind of stock and the fact that they are 05s, you probably could drop down into around $34K. Take the lowered price over fancy but useless accessories, and make it up in the aftermarket once you've gotten used to the 8.

The Dunlops are supposed to be quieter than the Bridgestones, over the long run; both have the same treadlife and similar performance profile. I've driven RX-8s with Dunlops and Bridgestones (mind you, they were new) and noticed no difference, actually. Cupping and pavement conditions are going to affect your subjective ride, too, but it seems that there are fewer complaints with Dunlop owners. Just take what comes, and swap out for S03s when your tires come due for replacement!

WoW did not know that....
Thanks for the heads up falcon I think at the least i was going to ask for clear corners.. but I like the alum fuel door idea.

Not likely they will do the clear corners...they are tecnically illegal

Hi YT1300,

I am planning on haggling to the end.. Hopefully I can get another $1000-$1300 knocked off the bottomline.

I was worried that one tire would outperform the other and didnt want to loose any of the 8's wicked handling abilities, so TY very much for your input.

Oh and I also found a dealer #3 with a lower listed price! but I am not sure what the catch is.... I will be visiting them tomorrow to see what they have to say..

Also following along with the posted topic, how would I go about finding out which colours were most popular? I havent seen many white 8's and for this reason I am leaning towards the white 8..
