Which gas/gas station do you use?
I thought that this would be an interesting thread question.
I wanted to know what fuel and what gas station do you guys use to fill up your 8's?
I personally have not had a good experience with Petro-canada gas. I filled up with 91 octane the other day but the car didn't seem to like it very much, ran a little rough. I then filled up with Esso 91 and that seem to work pretty well.
So what do you guys choose?

The Pioneer just down the street from my house. It's always about 0.5 cents per liter cheaper and with the "bonus bucks' card I get $1.20 off every tank.
I also seem to notice about an extra 25-35 kms per tank, probably a placebo effect though.

i thought all gas around here had ethanol in it, good to know. i often find myself driving on or near the 6 nations reserve but unsure if i trust the gas quality. do i really want to risk my engine saving 10 bucks.

Keep you stick on the ice
Costco (cheapest gas in town) and ultramar 2nd choice (usually only +0.06 over regular but varies from station). I was understanding all premium gas in Canada has 0% ethanol, which I avoid like plague... I put premium into everything I own (RX-8, 4Runner, snow blower & lawn mower), mostly to avoid ehtanol, but as well to abide by the RX-8 OM recommendation.
As a side note, my small engine retailer has told me regular gas (ethanol) is especially bad for small engines, turning in to varnish and clogging carbs, so do not put anything but premium in small engine powered machines (lawnmowers, snow throwers, generators, etc). Will save you tune ups and cleanup fees.

I always get 91 V-power at Shell, it gives me the best mileage by about 50 km and runs a lot smoother than petro-canada 91, i personally wouldn't even consider esso and Sunoco 94 still isn't as good for me (not as good mileage and not as smooth).

If youre using a certain gas. And say you switch to another to "try it out" and it doesnt run smooth, would that damage your engine in any way shape or form ?

I am The One!
I think to completely switch over to another type of gas you would have to give it at least 2 or 3 fill ups to notice a difference.
I know Shell is the only gas station that offers 0% ethonal in their gas at 91 octane.
I'm pretty sure Sunoco gives you "up to 10%" in their 94 octane.
That being said, the only thing I've ever used in my FD is 94 Octane. Boosted car owners have always sworn by it. I've seen people run 22-24lbs of boost off of Sunoco without a hitch. They say the gas is so good some people have even seen use of 28-30lbs of boost without a problem. Not too bad considering it's pump gas you can get almost anywhere.
So running only 12lbs of boost, I feel more than safe with 94 Octane.
My Miata requires 91 octane and I"ve always used Sunoco fuel in that too.

If there was a difference in brands, don't you think car manufacturers would provide recommendations? It's in their interest to reduce warranty claims and increase customer satisfaction with their vehicle.

yes it does
http://www.sunoco.ca/default.aspx?ID=2390
read that. it says up to 10% right there.
it seems like everyone pretends to know all this stuff about gas and ethanol but no one actually reads about it. if you look up all the brands mentioned on here on there websites not one of them says they dont use ethanol in any grade of fuel.
ya'll need to do a little research before you make claims like that.

This may be a dumb question but which is best? 10% ethanol or 100% gas. I never really paid attention when i lived in WA but now that i'm in OK i see signs for "100% gas" and "no ethanol" everywhere.
I know the computer is smart enough to figure it out and run properly but which is best and why?

what about 100 octane? i have a speedway kinda in my area that offers it but its a bit expensive. i have gotten it for my bike a couple of times and it does run a bit better on it. would the 8 benefit from it also?

Having said that, I wouldn't worry about the ethanol in the Sunoco 94 pumps. I run my RX-7 on the edge tuning wise and monitor my AFR's every time I drive and they never change. So their formula is pretty consistent and doesn't change between pumps or seasons. I would be curious to what percentage of ethanol they use though.
Now having said that as well. NA RX-8's do not need 94 so its a waste of money unless you specifically custom tuned to 94 octane.
Only 91 V-power goes in my 8's tank. I will be switching to 94 when it goes turbo.
