Painting brake calipers and warranty

Hey guys.

Going to paint the brake calipers on the weekend.

Does anyone know if it will give me hassle when i complain about brake squeal?

I really want Mazda to sort out the brake squeal so my car does not sound like a bus but want to paint those calipers as well.

Speaking of which, anyone here done them? I know the US guys have done them but I'm not sure what products are available locally.

VHT caliper paint. They are good until the brake pad reaching 400 degree

Get them in the local auto shop (autobarn, burson, supercheap, repco)

None other better. Engine paints have higher temp but they do not have the nice gloss then caliper paint.

It will not void your warranty in any kind.

Ghetto mods??? Khe!!!

Let me get this straight, you dont like the idea of people painting there calipers because it looks to "Ghetto", but if he can make it look good you'll like it?

As for warranty, in all circumstances, the dealer must prove that what you have done is responsible for any fault.

Do it mogley, makes the car look much better.

Yep, sure, if you feel you should, paint them!

But if you're having problems with your dealer fixing up squeeling brake pads shouldn't you get that fixed up first?

I agree that provided you are careful about overspray affecting the rotor, your dealer can say nothing against you on any warranty claim.

I've toyed with the idea of painting them and can fully understand why so many people have done so. As Kall pointed out in excellent descriptive terms - they are bloody ugly, which is a shame considering how well they work for OEM brakes.

I eventually decided though that it's not just the colour. The shape of the caliper is also pretty terrible. I'm going to replace the caliper (and probably the rotor) to get a cleaner, rust-free(!!!) look (and perhaps get a little more braking performance, but I doubt I'd notice it much). Can't say I'm in any real hurry though. Will probably do suspension first. Function before form for me when it comes to budgeting for mods.

I disagree with the "ghetto" comment. There was a thread a while back featuring, from memory, caliper covers that made OEM calipers look like Brembo product. Now THAT was pretty silly but just painting them to get a nicer look is not "ghetto" IMHO.

Man,
There is a nice "kit" from Dupli-color that does the work.
I did the job about 1 week ago, and haven't had any problems so far.
Sure, that removing the pads will result on a better job, but you don't need to... I didn't remove it and it looks great.

Take a look on their "instructional video" for DIY!

I still need to take a pic of it...

I used that kit on my AE86's front caliper, will be doin' the same on my 8 before I install my techna-fit brake lines, EBC pads and rotors this coming weekend.
