I want one now
Hi,
On the subject of getting kids into the back seats, has anyone experienced problems with opening the back doors when parking the car in carparks etc.
I haven't bought an RX8 yet and after trialling the car with my kids I haven't been too happy with how the back doors work.
Can someone please give me some feedback on how the back doors have been working.
Thanks in advance.

Strange question! The back doors work perfectly... you open the front door, then you open the back door - close the back door, then close the front. It's the way they're designed.
I'd be classified on the opposite end of the scale to midget and I have no issues getting in and out of the back of the 8.
Can't imagine what your problem is...
Car park? Is you're issue getting a kid out of a child seat with both doors open in a tight space??? Well it's better than a two door.
BTW, my kids are 8 & 10 - they love the car, no issues.

Clarification
To clarify my original question.
I have two kids aged 1 and 3 and my concern (short term because they will grow) is opening the back doors when parked in tight spaces and also on busy roads etc. I realise the doors are a better option than a two door car but I have never owned a two door car before and the RX8 was going to be my first true sports car.
I guess I need some advice/comments that will help me decide to buy this car even though I have a family.
Thanks again.

All I can say is that if you park in car parks all of the time nad are constantly driving a 1 & 3 year old round in your car, a Tarago is a better alternative (extreme end of opposite scale).
The rear centre console is the real issue. Car parks are a bother because you have your 1 year old out and into a stroller and you'll be getting the 3 year old out the other side. Main roads are a real concern as you have no choice but to extract one child on the traffic side.
Ask yourself how often?? Also, the boot's not designed for massive loads, strollers, baby bags, shopping...
The 8's a great "dad's car" that can still take the kids without going to a selfish coupe or 2 seater. It's not a commodore (thank god).

I think that the rear doors work really well in most situations.
But-
- It can be hard to get out of the back of the car in a tight space. You need to juggle the doors... not ideal with small kids.
- You can't get both kids out the same side... can be interesting on busy roads or again in tight parking space whee one side is clear.
- On the plus... it is really useful to be able to access both the front and the back with both doors open... makes it easy to get to the kids.
I agree with Kev, "How Often?"
This is a fabulous car!!!

Kids
I have a two and four year old.
You dont have trouble when parking on the road, in fact the kids like it as it is quite easy for them to step out of the rear seat.
You are right though when parking up against walls, other cars etc. It is still easy to get them out but you are trapped between the doors if you have to help them. I have learnt to park to one side of the car spot to allow access on the kid side and in extreme cases get them out before you park.
It can be a hastle on the odd occasion but nothing beats the kids yelling from the back seat "go faster daddy".
Oh yeah, they have trouble seeing out the back windows so dont plan on driving across the nullabor with them in the back seat.

New car dealer
I think most of us are first or second shipment customers so not a lot of discounts were offered back then.
Shop around with a cheque book in hand i would say but still not much more than $1500 off RRp being offered.

Hi vafuncool,
I've got a 4 week old son and a RX-8. The child seat is facing backwards and that makes life quite difficult. My wife complains everytime we put him in and take him out. It will get better once we can turn the child seat to fave the front.
Go for the RX-8, you won't regret it!
I got my RX-8 from Essendon Mazda. Go ask for Laurie Wilks if you are in that part of Melbourne.

Should be able to get some price break right now or early in the N/Y if you are being offered a car with 2003 compliance plate. Push hard on this!!
