the Email thingy on this site is caput

By the way, all domestic JDM model are limited to 180kmh. Hence they sells this ECU decoder like hot cakes in Japan.

All our cars are not limited to that speed and 235 is the max speed.

"Running out of puff" is more to do with the physical characteristics of the engine/drivetrain/body.

"Speed Limited" is under computer control.

Lock - are you gunna tell the magistrate you are looking at buying one. ROFL!

Cheers,
Hymee.

Actually i was going to tell the magistrate that the sound of the "Hymee exhaust "put me in a speeding induced mood .

Consequently you should be held accountable for selling the exhaust system to me causing me to speed . :D

cheers

So, speed limited in this case is pointless then. Which is my point.
I think.
Conclusion: car is not limited in anyway but the characteristics of itself.
So no one to blame. Not like the computer can't handle more speed.

235 is the max speed??? I was once sitting on my friend's integra type R (DC 2) and he was driving about 250. He installed the Apexi Speed meter so it clearly showed the speed..

250 in a DC2...?

What 7000 rpm in 5th gear??

I used to own a DC2 and it does 110kmh in 4000 rpm in 5th gear. So I assume right that it will go to 220kmh in 8000 rpm in the same gear ratio?? Where does 250kmh comes from. Different gear box???

Maybe the calibration is wrong... hangon I ask another DC2 ex-owner to confirm that... he tracked his DC2 in Philip Island.

HKS air filter, Apexi V-AFC 'VTEC Control Airflow Convertor, Apexi RSM-GP 'REV/ Speed Meter' oil cooler, heavy duty clutch... thats what I know about his car...

I tell the turth, U make your judgement, doesn't matter..

I agree with Timbo.

Unless of course you dropped it off a very big cliff!! :p

I suggest your mate re-calibrates his gee whiz speedo as repetition of that story will only invite similar derision.

It's not the motor (well, it is ) it's more the gearing, and ability of the motor to sustain the revs necessary in top gear to reach that speed. I'm sorry -- but I stand by my previous response :p

I confirmed with my girl friend last night and she said she also saw my friend was driving over 240 once at highway.. well it might be the speed meter wasn't working well.. I'll ring up my friend this evening and c if he has never taken any pics which show his 'high speed driving'

The DC2 theoratically runs out of gear. The car, please say I am wrong, has a very short 5th gear.

As I told you, the car is 110kmh (cop tested) on the 5th at 4000 rpm. The car is 8500 rpm max. Do the maths it can only go up to 233.5kmh

That why I asked you if he has change the gear ratio. He may have a different final drive.

From the setup it sounds like Jacob Chang's car before he left Australia... correct?

Hymee is right, as always....

Most cars (including ours) don't max out at their at top speed because of rev limiters they "run out of puff" because the various resistances acting in and on the car will eventually reach a figure that cancels out the engine's ability to push the car any faster.

There are quite a few resistances involved, but the chief one is plain old air resistance. Believe it or not, as a car speeds up it becomes increasingly hard to simply push a path through the air. Hence the fad a while back for manufacturers to spruik their designs' drag co-efficients.

When cars were first invented some pundits predicted that they would never be able to go over 30mph because the air pressure would kill the driver!! LOL. :D Fortunately, we got past that point, but we can't keep accelerating indefinitely, no matter what the gear ratios.

So how fast the RX8 actually goes (I seem to remember 246kpm being quoted when they came out) will depend a great deal on the prevailing conditions - i.e. slope of road, tail wind, etc. And two apparently identical cars that come off the assembly line will have slightly different top speeds and acceleration characteristics, because.. (well, they just DO! )

The RX8 reaches its top speed at well below 9,500 rpm. so if you can find a friendly furniture van that will do 300kpm, all you have to do is follow close behind and you should be able to keep up just fine....

Simply, looking at the rx8s figures...211Nm of torque and 177kw,
although its got a sexy body thats to die for and looks like it can fly over the moon,
I'm sure anyone would've guessed that it was incapable of doing
speeds any higher.
The price tag will slot in nicely as to what its top speed is.
My guess anyways.
