So I took my car in to get the brake pads replaced. (third time) When I set up an appointment I had the copy of the TSB for the new style brake pads with me in case they gave me grief. I must say, they have been very good to deal with. So far Kramer has done about 4 or 5 cars with the new pads and has had no complaints about squeal.

I had also mentioned that I knew another Flash was due to be released and I asked them to see if they had it. They managed to get it downloaded a day before my appointment and re-flashed my car. The latest Flash flash deals with the sudden powerloss on cruise.

The new flash adds more oil during light cruise conditons... what was happening was under light throttle for extended periods of time not enough oil was getting into motor to keep the seals sealed...

gasses would start to get by, engine temp and cat temp would go way up. and you lose the ability to accellerate...

if you let it go long enough you get knock, and then you lose the ability to get over 4k rpm.. (feels like a clogged cat)

The TSB hasn't officially hit. It comes out next month.

Hi Rotten42,

would this apply to '06 vehicles as well? I am picking up my 06 SE shortly, so I wanted to know in advance if I should be asking the dealer for new brakes and a new flash upgrade.

Thanks,

The TSB applies for the brake pads.

I don't know about the flash because I haven't seen a TSB out for this yet. Of the people that I know that have gotten the flash, they have all been 2004's.

Hi Rotten42

That Link isnt working for me, but I may have copied out the TSB for the Brakes when you posted on another thread. I will search when I get home.
I will make sure to bring up the brake upgrade when I goto pick up the vehicle.

Thanks again, your help is much appreciated.

Wow, that's nice to hear. The Sunridge techs didn't care when i mentioned my brakes were squealing to them TWICE. One of them even said, "Because they are rotors they are supposed to squeak," I was NOT impressed. I brought my car in earlier to get my handbrake handle replaced too, and it took them one and a half months to get the part in.

I am planning to bring the TSB in to them and force them to do it, or maybe just go over to Kramer.

Sunridge is a joke for Service.

1) They won't give you a ride to anywhere that is out or the NE when you take your car in for service. They will only drop you off at the LRT. Can you say low-rent?

2) They never call you when your parts are in. I have had a few times when they needed to order parts but never called me. One time I waited 4 weeks and of course when I called them they said, "it just arrived yesterday" They use that line a lot. Another time they never called me because they closed the service order even though the work hadn't been done.

3) You need to take every TSB in there with you because they consider the customer an idiot. I say this because of the stupid excuses they give you to explain away complaints you have on the car.

4) I will give them credit for good work once you are able to get it authorized. They did a good job of replacing my engine.....but up until the problem was properly diagnosed they treated me like I was stupid.

Bottom line: If you want good service go to either North Hill or Kramer.

Nice kitty. Thanks, this is timely, I'm on vacation soon, and will take it in and hopefully get the squealing fixed. At 15000kms/10 months they shouldn't give me grief...I hope.

I have 34K on my 2004 and my brakes were done with no questions...
And the squeal is gone.

I have 45,000 kms when they did mine this week.

My 8 only has 7500km, but I noticed the squealing ever since 2500km approx.

Yeah, Sunridge has a horrible Service Department in my experience. They never act like they want my business. I do think their Sales Department is good though.

I agree with you. I bought my car from Sunridge after having a bad experience with Bobby at Kramer. Still, Kramer's service department is much better to deal with......oh...here's another reason. When I picked up my car the other day they had a hottie working the check out desk!

Haha, that's a great reason, I think I know which hottie!! (one of the reasons I go back too!!)

I also had a bad experience with Kramer, but I won't name who...He kept pressuring me to buy right after the test drive, but refused to give any type of "deal" to me. Mind you this was when I was shopping for a Mazda 3...I had info that the 06 Mazda 3's which had many upgrades and all, and asked for a better deal on the 05. He claims that there is no '06 Mazda 3 info out yet, and says they are not allowed to give "deals" on their cars. Then he proceeds to tell me how much he makes as if I were wasting his time...He's says something like "oh if we don't sell any cars we don't get any money, I'll be eating potatoes in the winter,"
Blah blah blah...NOTE: about a month after that, they did something like an 05 sale...I just thought "what a liar"

I drove over to Sunridge after and they told me right away, they could give me about a thousand or two off on the 3 with the same options. No pressure either. So I decided to get an 8 from them =p

Interesting back and forth conversation about service departments. I've often lived in places that usually only had one dealership for a given make, so you were more or less stuck with whomever was there. Fortunately, most of them were winners.

With the 8, I don't drive it far (like >50 km each way), but I drive it quite often, but still the mileage is low. The mileage standards for getting the car serviced aren't in question; it's how often per year that I have to decide. Fortunately, that means only one service in almost 8 months of ownership...

Rotten, in regards to the latest flash to increase oil in the chambers, I've never felt the car act as you desribed, fortunately. However, I do get kind of a rattling sound at lower RPM at times. Sounds like valves knocking lightly in a piston engine. I was always led to beleive it was the variable fresh air ducts making that sound. Is this the knocking sound your are talking about. I hope not!

I got the brakes done as well yesterday. However, they charged me $90 to turn the discs because Mazda only covers the pads and not the disks. Since the discs were not terribly smooth (34,000 kms later), they made "an executive decision" to turn the discs and charge me. I wasn't too happy, but this is a new service manager there and I wanted to help him out. $90 no big deal if it really gets rid of the noise.

Anybody else pay for the turning the rotors or am I the only pigeon here?

I never noticed the problem described for the latest flash either. I also get a bit of noise at idle like you described....I'm not worried.

they didn't turn mine this time but they did the last time they were replaced....they didn't charge me nor would I pay for it. I consider it part of fixing the defect. The way I look at it is that it's taken them 3 attempts to fix a problem. There is no way I'm paying a dime for that.

Dam, I actually should of used this approach as I went in there at least three times for the same problem as well. :wallbash:

I'm getting softer as I get older..... :icon_no2:

Your dealer will update your flash periodically when your car is in for service.
The forum gets the info about the same time as the dealer so you'll know if there's a new one
