Since most of us don't have a spare, is anyone using run flat tires? I presume they would be objectionably loud. I don't plan to do so, but was curious.

Skythe 06-14-2006, 10:58 AM I dont think they have the performance of normal tire. Not positive though. You are correct on this. Many vette owners are displeased because of this. Huey52 06-14-2006, 12:50 PM The load bearing stiff sidewalls are most like the performance/noise culprits. John Corbitt 06-14-2006, 01:11 PM The C6 with the Z51 package has GoodYear Eagle F1 Supercar 248/40/18. They handle every bit as well as the Factory tires on the RX-8. They are also quiet. I plan on switching to them with my next change. They are much better than the EMTs on the C5 which handled poorly and were loud. John Glyphon 06-14-2006, 01:15 PM They handle every bit as well as the Factory tires on the RX-8. heh, that's not saying much for them. 416to212 06-14-2006, 01:34 PM I'll be running run flat Dunlops in the winter. I'll take performance over the utility to 'run flat' in the summer but in the winter I don't want to be calling roadside assistance, using the tire sealant, or freezing my ass off on the side of a single lane mountain road on my way snowboarding. I used to run the 17'' Euphoria Pirelli Run flats on my Protege5 and they did very well. I even autocrossed with them 3 times. Good traction, reliable, and durable. They were a bit heavy though but I rarely ever have complained about road noise from the run flats. In a city like New York run flats make sense. Lots of road hazards, pot holes, not shoulders on the highways...etc... SayNoToPistons 06-14-2006, 04:08 PM i live in NYC and i hate run flats. why? very little grip for the price, over priced, and heavy.... then again i have something else for a daily... lethologica 06-15-2006, 07:26 AM Run Flat Tires are SO heavy. Expect worse gas mileage and a more uncomfortable ride. Remeber, as the tire spins, it acts heavier to the car. Not to mention getting them mounted is much more expensive in most cases. I opted for the spare option. I would recommend the same. |
