Wasn't sure where to post this one, I'm trying to connect my interceptor to my laptop via a usb to serial adapter, i set the adapter up, and set it to Com 1, but the software still can't seem to communicate to it. It trys to lock on for a moment and then throws a error code.
does it matter where the microtech serial laptop adapter is plugged into the chain of cables?
Any thoughts?

It should be OK as long as it is between the adapter and the unit.
You might want to try and uninstall the driver and re-install it..or change to a different COM port. Your laptop may have conflicts on COM1
I have huge problems with mine when i run GPS with the Scanalyser.....different ports but the adapter software that drive the different serial-USB adapters can't co-exist at the same time. I usually have to remove one to get it to work :(

I bet you need to pick COM5 if you can. Do you know how to change the COM ports setting for the USB adaptor? It can be done.

I do, but I'm not sure if the MT software can use COM5
