I took my car to the dealership yesterday for service. My complaint was lack of power at high rpm. They checked it out and of course said that everything was fine. They even took it for a test drive and said it felt fine. I installed an accelerometer a couple days ago and made several dyno tests. My results confirm what everyone else is seeing. I see the horsepower graph back off at about 6200rpm and the torque takes a DIVE at the same rpm. Sometimes it is so bad that my butt dyno can feel it. Hopefully Mazda will step up soon and make a statement.

We are still waiting for them to give some information, but if you can please put future posts into the same thread it would be appreciated... no need to start separate threads when we have several going.

I too have noticed the lack of top-end power just by the seat of my pants ... but since I have no idea what it *should* feel like.... *shrug*.

The more of you guys that take your cars in and make the same complaint (if you actually have one) the better chance you have for Mazda to take notice.

Isn't this the notorious tertiary port sticking problem?

But doesn't the third port open at every 5th start or something for cleaning, that's what teh tech info cd said.

no... small short dips in dyno graphs have corresponded to port openings in the most recent batches, there being 3 of them suggesting ports ARE opening. Now, as far as HOW open they are is my question.

You do realize the car will not make full HP & torque until the engine is broken in. We're still not sure when the ECU engagues full HP mode.

I do know the engine's internal compression increases as the engine breaks in up to 8000 miles.

How do you know this?

Also at what point can the engine be considered broken-in: 600 miles (as per manual) or 8,000 miles or even 20,000 miles.
