View Full Version : Rev Buzzer Mod
B-Nez 08-14-2003, 11:47 PM Okay, I know what one of the first mods I will be doing is:
Replacing the stock rev buzzer!
Anyone else desiring a more conspicuous warning device?
P00Man 08-14-2003, 11:51 PM i heard its pretty quiet

ibfubar2000 08-15-2003, 12:47 AM my car has a reverse buzzer?? i never heard it. does it always buzz when im in reverse? i have heard them on other cars, is it constant or a beep?
MrWigggles 08-15-2003, 04:04 AM 2000,
You are joking correct?
REVolutions BUZZER.
-Mr. Wigggles
dcfc3s 08-15-2003, 09:03 AM I've watched a video of an RX-8 being run through the gears, and it's BIGTIME quieter than the RX-7's buzzer was. The 2nd gen RX-7 had a pretty loud buzzer, and the 3rd gen's was more of a chime, and a little quieter.
It should be quite easy to upgrade the buzzer. Hell, Radio Shack sells a small 12v buzzer that has an IDENTICAL sound to the 2nd gen buzzer. Big trick will be finding where in the world the buzzer is located, or what wire to tap in to.
If the buzzer is like previous RX-7's, it will be in the instrument cluster somewhere mounted to the PCB.
Anyone wanna take their car apart? Bnez, I'll give you a hand with yours if you want :).
Dale
Doctorr 08-15-2003, 09:39 AM If I could find the damn thing it would be upgraded by now!
Can anyone point it out to me? I can't hear it, makes it hard to find!

I'm sure you would! And you make no mention of helping put it back together! :p
TerenceT 08-21-2003, 03:41 AM get a speed racer shift light (without the tech) but hide it inside the upper left vent
or
get a sequential shift light from Datatool (.Revlight)
it's programmable (via a dial i think)
it's bendable (a strip of LED green/yellow/red)
just ignore the buzzer since people comment they can't hear it after 3rd gear
Spin9k 08-21-2003, 08:14 AM Instructions for Revlight say you need an electronic tachometer signal (assume we have that). Any idea how/where to tap into it easily without removing the dash pod?
I still wish we could discover the buzzer location... far easiler to HEAR than to have to LOOK at something.
TerenceT 08-21-2003, 01:39 PM you proably will have to take the gauge cluster out to access the wires at the back of the tech
the one i had before is positive/negative/signal so it wasn't too hard,
but since it's adjustable and all the fumbling basically turn it way high and it took us awhile to trouble shoot it.
btw, as far as i know, the light doesn't come on until the last 1000 or 500 rpm
zoom44 08-25-2003, 07:43 PM have been over 8500 at least 4 times now and without watching the tach real close believe i hit 9000 twice and have not yet heard the buzzer. it should be louder. btw all 4 times me alone in the car. twice radio on twice radio off so i don't think its the audiopilot cancelling the sound.
Spin9k 08-25-2003, 08:22 PM Well I'm definitely hearing the buzzer now. I guess it is a learned sort of thing, but with the windows open... no way... closed no problem, but it would be more FUN if it were just plain LOUDER :D :D :D !
Elara 08-25-2003, 08:57 PM Can someone tell me what it sounds like? I've redlined three times now, and no buzzer/bell/whistle/anything. Where is it?
TerenceT 08-25-2003, 10:31 PM buzzzzzzz
i think...
Emsdad 08-26-2003, 06:34 PM I can't even here the dang thing!! My wife does though and it freaked her out the first time! LOL

I spent a couple years living in Japan...most cars there have the bells when you are in reverse. It is incredibly annoying, and I am glad the RX-8 does not have one.
Zaphod 08-26-2003, 09:27 PM It sounds more like a tone than a buzz.

I found this thread, cause I'm searching for that same wire right now.
Oh well, might have to see how friendly the dealer is when I go and ask to look at the wiring diagrames for the rx8.
r0tor 10-18-2003, 04:55 PM its strange, but I think there is actually a break-in period for the buzzer... the first couple times I couldn't hear it at all, now I can't miss it

I dont think so
what would be the purpose of that
Omicron 10-18-2003, 06:12 PM So has anyone found it yet? I just posted a thread about this 'cause I can just barely hear the damn thing, then deleted it when I found this thread.
Come on, SOMEone out there must be braver than me and is willing to take the gauge cluster out to find out what's back there...
RodsterinFL 10-18-2003, 08:03 PM I think it is the same sound as when you leave the lights on and open the door.
B-Nez 10-18-2003, 08:41 PM It was very Un-noticeable today while autocrossing. With a helmet, and the sound of all that rubber (lol), I don't remember hearing the buzzer once. I went by feel.
