Hey all,

Just ordered some new swank rims, Volk GT-V 19"x 8.5. :boink:
I want to go go as wide as possible (without staggering) which is 255.
I like the ride quality the stock 18" 225/45 give.... (not too harsh when
I'm cruising around the pot holes in good ol T.O.)

I'd like to go 19" 255/40 tires except that tire on my new rims gives me 3.93% diameter difference (according to size calculators) instead of the "max"3%...
I can deal w/ the 4% speedometer misread, but obviously I don't want it to be
a dangerous set-up.

If I go 19" 255/35 it's .02%... but will they be too harsh for city/potholes or should I stop being a baby and go w/ them??? If it's not safe w/ the 40... should I sacrifice the grip/looks of the 255/35 for comfort of 245/40 (2% diameter difference)

Need help !!!! any suggestions/opinions/experience on this matter greatly appreciated!!!

thanx guyz

well, you're already sacrificing for looks with 19" rims. why not go all the way? Even with 40 series tires, you'll feel every bump. If you're looking for a soft ride, you should of kept the 18's.

Good point...but the 40's should be a smoother ride....
Does anyone know whether it's safe or not?

I wouldn't worry about the odometer reading as much as your rim. with the 40 profile you are safer and stronger, than running a 35 or 30 profile tire.

I want a 255/40.... and fully agre w/ it being safer(on the rim, etc.) than 255/35.
The issue I'm running in to is that the wheel calculator says that set-up is a 3.93%
diameter difference than the stock. The max diameter difference suggested is 3%...

Is it safe to run????

Not to be rude but use the search button.....it's your friend. This subject has been covered extensively since this site was conceived in 2001. Lots of great info can be found by searching.

I think the 35 series would be a great look, but you'll have to be really careful, especially on the T.O streets. If your the type of driver that goes around every bump (like me), I say go for the lower profiles. It will be within tolerance and will look sweet!

thanx for the info/input....

I searched the forum and net for hours and couldn't find the info
on whether the 19" x 8.5rims on 19 255/40 tires was safe or not (3.93%)...

So I opted for the safe route and am ordering 19" 255/35 Tires.
I avoid all potholes if possible :jump:
From the research on the forum (and C&D reviews) I'm going for the Goodyear Eagle F1 DS-G3.

Nice!! Those are going to look sweet, and I'm sure they'll be worth the effort! Congrats!

You can avoid all the pot holes you want(as I do the same) but you can't avoid them all. A 35 series will bend your rim if you hit a good one. I wouldn't risk it....especially in Toronto
