Cool according to the calculator I could have went another 100Km on my tank after the light went on. This is about correct .

Also it costs $1 for every 11.5km or something like that at the fuel cost I paid last.

Man that's expensive!

As an aside, how long can you with the needle indication until you run out. The needle went down below the E on my way back from Manitoolin Island. I knew there was a gas station ahead a bit further so I bypassed a gas station knowing this and kind of testing the RX-8 gods. I was a little scared, but I did want to see how low I could go. Anyway, I put in 52 litres of fuel when I filled up.

Specs say the capacity is 60 litres. So I guess the question still stands. How long can you go before running out? And if you do run out, will it damafe the fuel injection system?

That would depend on how and where you are driving of course. If on a hwy in 6th gear at 100km then you can probably go for about 100km. How far did you drive after the low fuel light went on? I usually reset my trip odometer and never go beyond 550km, even though at that point I have 10L of gas left. I can "feel" the fuel pump struggling too..

 

I've tried to figure out when the light goes on too...I think it comes on when you've only got 1/6th of a tank left (ie. 10 litres).

Most I've filled was 55L, and I drove with the light on for a WHILE in city conditions.

 

Yeah, that will come from experience. In the Prelude the light is very quick to come on, usually at the 15L left mark. I think someone from the States said the 8 is a little more laid back.... and the light goes on with about 10L left which isn't much.

 

Good point Never thought of doing this. I usually put in a mental picture of where the needle is. Resetting the odometer is something I'm going to start doing. Just have to figure out what to reset it at for the RX-8... What do you guys think?

 

I'd say about 375-400, based on what I've been getting for fuel economy. I put in 48.3 L at 333.2 km today, but I knew I was going driving after work or I would have left it a bit longer.

I started resetting the trip odometer back in university when I was driving an 85 1.6L Pony (which, sadly, was my last rear wheel drive before I got the 8). Among the many things that broke in the "high" quality automobile was the fuel guage, and being in university, I just started using the trip odometer instead of getting it fixed. I just kept doing it on every car since. My MX-3 is good for 440 before it's time to start looking for a pump.
