View Full Version : Accidental RX8 convoys

Having last night found myself in an accidental convoy of 3 RX8's along Greenhill Rd (and I'll admit that in little-old Adelaide 3 RX8's counts as a convoy), I was wondering if there's an official record for non-organised aggregations of 8's?

We even managed to avoid clashing colours (red, black, and a revelation (burgandy or whatever colour that is)).

We never did find out from Carl what colour RX-8 he drove.....

I hope you waved or shared knowing glances with the others, Noddy??!!

It was black. Remember the video that EZZY took?

Sorry Noddy, I can beat that. :o:

The north side of Sydney is lousy with 8's and on at least three occasions I have been in company with 4 (including mine). Unfortunately, each time I was the only one waving frantically and hanging out the window to see if they had any mods, etc. The other drivers adopted the 'I'm the super cool one, how dare you have the same car' ignore approach.

I think a lot of them leave the car as is and don't really share in the 'community' aspect we all enjoy. Thankfully, we've seen the light. :D:

Well, that's me sorted. Looks like I have been cast into eternal darkness, never to be included in the company of the enlightened ones. Still, I am known to give an acknowledging wave, much to the chagrin of my wife if she happens to be on board.

Yeah, Dave, those 8's around the lower North Shore are an anti-social bunch. At least down here we wave, flash lights, play "Colonel Bogie" on the air horns ('cept if it's Tim Tam, 'cos that just encourages him  )

And labrat, my wife doesn't understand me, either ;)

Didn't quite manage the wow-your-taste-in-cars-is-as-good-as-mine wave/nod/smile in the dark. However I did find myself changing lanes coming up to the lights to try to arrange three in a lane or three in a line across.

Whilst good form, the wave/nod/smile still doesn't quite match the original MX5 owners habit of putting the headlight units up when seeing another 5. I missed that when I traded from an NA to an NB.

there are heaps of RX-8 in Sydney CBD at any given time and also around uni. areas now...
it's become a rather common sports car amongst regions of boring cars..
like Revolver said, most of them adopted i'm too cool to wave attitude.
only on two occassions I got acknowledgement wave or wink back from the driver :(
but yes, i can definitely say we had covoys of more than 3 RX-8s :D

Not an RX8 convoy as such, but there were 3 of us at the same time at the Springvale cemetary a couple of weeks ago.

During our fortnightly ritual of tending to my eldest sons grave, the boys yelled out "Dad! Here comes another RX8." They have become experts at spotting them from a mile away. Sure enough, along comes a red 8 that looked like it hadn't been washed in a month. The boys gave them a wave, but they totally ignored them. :bootyshak

On the way out, they spot another one heading in our direction. This one was a titanium one with the plates "RXZOOM". He at least flashed his lights and gave us a wave back. :ylsuper:

Hey Noddy..how are you!! Another 8 in Adelaide who posts on this forum...cool!! :Freak_ani

I have seen quite a few 8's in the last few days.....saw one today that needed a good wash!!

I have been trying unsuccessfully to organise an 8 cruise here in Adelaide.....there are 3 others I know of who would be keen....but until now have only managed to get out with SA Rotors. Was a great night.

Anyway if you are ever in need of some other 8 company let me know. Catch up for a coffee and chat etc....whatever.

Anyway nice to see you posting!

I saw a couple today...black one and the dirty red one. I always flash my lights....sod them I say if they think I am strange then too bad so sad. I got a little wave from the girl in the black one....I was fanging around a corner off Greenhill road as she was waiting at the lights....:mdrmed: Yes I know I am a tragic....but hey have always had a quirky car and when I had an Alfa in the 80's there was a CLAN feeling among the Alfa drivers here...it was great!

So if you see a SILVER RX8 soon to be resplendent in personalised plates of black on silver give me a wave I will wave back I promise...even if the War Departments in the car...I not scared :hahano:

So you were a rusted-on Alfa owner?

So you were a rusted-on Alfa (#) owner?
I will happily admit to owning 5 of them! Sad hey...

The ten metre applies to most of them. The race one is ok as it has an excuse...it's stock...but quick...well it's sposed to be stock...what would a girl know about hotting up an engine??

I have to be careful when I wash them....it's the best way of activating the rust!!! But hey they look good and they go like stink and they are cheap to fix!!
